Anyone here a student at CNSE? I’m applying for the Fall 2018 school year. I cannot find much information on admission stats or the Albany campus itself. Can you share what your scholarship was, if any? I’m interested in the nanoscale science degeee. Is there anything you can share about this program, also the school itself?
I’m a current CNSE student. We do have a few scholarships here, but I am unsure about the financial future of the college. They eliminated the full-ride scholarship in 2017. I am majoring in nanoscale engineering, not science, but I could give you some insight into the college. We do have some excellent, state-of-the-art equipment here, and students can get involved in research in their first semester itself. All of our professors are great teachers and researchers. We have a few clubs, but you won’t find anything close to the student community and involvement at UAlbany. Our classes are tiny, which will help you get a lot of personal attention from the professors, but you won’t be able to make many friends outside the college. There aren’t many gen.ed’s here, except a few philosophy classes, and a few different ones. You won’t be able to take any other classes except the ones at CNSE (and those offered online by SUNY POLY). So, if you’re looking for double-majoring, or even minoring in another subject, such as Business or Computer Science, it is virtually impossible. The only second major you can pursue here is applied math. The administration isn’t responsive at all (everything here is managed from Utica), and you’d have to call the registrar’s and bursar’s offices 10 times for anything to be done. We don’t have dorms, and it is unlikely we will get them anytime in the next 3-4 years at least. Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions or concerns.
