I have a couple of questions on how my financial aid will work during my co-op.
1. If I have a co-op in Boston will my financial aid cover the room and board if I stay on campus? If the financial aid does cover housing, meal plans, etc. Can I use grant money, scholarship money or will I have to use the loans
2. If my co-op is in DC or NYC, etc will you help me find housing and will my financial aid cover housing? If the financial aid does cover housing, meal plans, etc. Can I use the university grant money, scholarship money or will I have to use the loans?
3. To graduate in 4 yrs because of the co-op program I will have to take classes during the summer, does my financial aid cover those classes or will I be charged extra tuition for summer classes? Can i use my shcolarship or grant money to cover the cost of those classes?
Thank you for your help.

I only know the answer to #3. First, both 4 and 5 year students have to take summer classes. You will still receive financial aid for these sessions (Summer 1/Summer 2). However, because it is only a half-semester (two months) your financial aid package is half of what it would normally be for a semester. For example, if your financial aid package includes 10k in grants per semester, you’d get 5 for a summer session.

How many summer sessions do I have to take to graduate in 4 years? And how long is each summer session since there’s 2? And I have to take both right? Is it half of all my financial aid like grants, scholarships, loans, etc. or is it just half of certain types of aid? Will they cover just the cost of the classes or will the also cover the cost of room and board?

All information regarding schedule, summer sessions, etc. for a four year student is easily found through a quick Google search. I believe it is half of all types of aid.

Ok thank you so much!

Scholarships and financial aid can be used to cover the whole cost of attendance, including room and board. I don’t know exactly how federal financial aid works with the Northeastern schedule, but for scholarships, you receive the scholarship for the semesters that you are in classes (and summer half semesters).

For housing for co-ops outside of Boston, there are apparently a lot of resources and networks of former co-ops to help figure it out. You don’t be on your own!

How many summer sessions you have to take to finish in 4 years depends on how many co-ops you plan to do (1 or 2), how heavy your load is in a normal semester, your major, and if you come in with credits from AP/IB. This would be something to discuss with an advisor once you start, because it’s very situation dependent.

Thanks!
