Coach Contact and Recruited Athletes

Hi All. A comment in an old posting caught my eye and I now wonder about others' experiences. A student said she had been in "constant contact" with a coach throughout the entire application process. I had thought (hoped?!) that February - March 10 might be a little quieter on this front, perhaps with coaches backing off since the admissions committees were at the point of meeting/deciding, i.e., contact might get a little dicey, raise false hope, and even seem inappropriate at such a late date.

For recruited athletes and their parents out there, what's been your experience? And would you be concerned if certain coaches who were initially quite aggressive in recruiting/communicating with your child haven't been in touch the past few weeks? Thanks in advance for insights. I am clueless and curious about how the recruitment process works and all along I've had this sense of dread that our child is potentially being set up for extra disappointment in the wake of some very nice, seemingly genuine attentions and words/signs of encouragement. (Of course I might just be betraying my neuroses here so please excuse....)

FWLIK the coaches send their ‘picks’ to the admissions office. That was usually when we last heard from the coach, they were going to notify admissions they’d like our kid admitted (how much weight that really carries, depends greatly on the school and their current athlete priorities). Some coaches are also AOs, which could explain why an athlete would hear from them regularly. And, some coaches are more active in the recruiting ‘game’ than others. For us, we heard again from a couple of coaches after second day visits.
