So I have been in contact with this coach for a while now and the coach offered me a call and we scheduled one. However, the coach apologized and wanted to reschedule for another day and time and we did just that. The day and time came and now the coach is not picking up my phone calls (I called them around 5 times in the span of 30 minutes). I left him a message and email but no answer. Does this mean the coach has lost interest in me?
I’m currently a Junior and while my times are on the slower end compared to the current athletes, I’m well within recruiting ranges for that school and I believe my grades and scores are on par with normal competitive applicants.
I was really excited for this opportunity but now I’m worried and am even thinking of lowering priorities for this school (was one of top choice).
Could be a lot of reasons for the coach to not be able to take the call. Assuming there wasn’t a time zone problem?
Leave a vmail, followup with an email/text (however you have been communicating) and say you would like to reschedule the call.
I don’t think it means disinterest, if the coach wasn’t interested s/he wouldn’t have scheduled the call in the first place. Also, this has happened several times with my son, so you are not alone and I think it goes to show that coaches have a lot on their plates and/or are perhaps a little disorganized
My son would always leave one message (he would only call one time though) and would also email saying “sorry I missed you this afternoon” . In every case the coach and my son ended up talking. Again, I really don’t think it means anything.
My son has had this happen as well. He had several calls set up with a coach, he missed one due to a class that ran late, coach missed several. Then the coach called him at a random time while he was in class…this has been going on since the fall and they still haven’t connected. My son continues to correspond via email and the assistant coach confirms their continued interest. I think this particular head coach either has personal issues or is just really disorganized.
This is fairly common, so I wouldn’t worry too much. If you don’t hear back in the next few days just send an email or text asking if there’s another time you can call.
Glad to hear I’m not the only one going through this kind of problem. I’m sure its not a time zone issue since the coach hasn’t answered both my message or email for a couple of days now. I just hope the coach isn’t sick or anything hope they reply soon.
