Does anyone have any experience with the Honors Program at CCU? My D is looking to be in the Musical Theatre program as well. Any thoughts about the honors housing? Classes/senior thesis?
My D was asked to be in honors but decided against it- less stress for her. Also, she came into school with a bunch of college credits, so didn’t have to do some things that regular frosh or honors had to do. But I think that @crc500’s D did honors this year. Maybe she can speak to this? Honor’s housing is just in the newer dorms.
I graduated from the BFA Musical Theatre program at CCU and also was in the honors college. Almost all of the classes I took to meet the honors requirements were theatre classes that I worked with the faculty to make work for honors. I took a community service honors class where I volunteered for Atlantic Stage, the local equity house in MB. For my senior thesis, I used our NYC senior showcase. It’s a nice bonus to have on my resume for when I am applying to grad schools and encouraged me to push harder in my theatre classes to learn more. I recommend it, although someone who is currently in the program might could confirm if it is still this easily intertwined with the BFA. I graduated in '14. The honors housing freshman year is also a nice bonus (private bedroom in an apartment style 4 bedroom - living room/small kitchen).
Honors housing was moved to Chanticleer this year, so not apartment style anymore. They are a unit with 5 double bedrooms and a shared bathroom, no kitchen or living room. But they do have lounges on the floors and a large kitchen in the lobby.
Gotcha- well I’ve heard those new dorms are way nice. So I’m jealous.
Yup! Hotel Coastal.
BTW, @AlexaMT - CONGRATS on your tour!!!
Thank you!
@stagedoormama @AlexaMT Thanks for replying! I was wondering how much extra work it is, but I see you said you were able to incorporate your theatre classes into it.
Sounds like the housing is nicer than the regular dorms, but what is Chanticleer?
Just a few more questions: How would you said the “party scene” is within the musical theatre department? And if you don’t mind, what tour are you on?
Chanticleer is the school mascot, but also the name of one of the newest dorms on campus. Alexa can probably speak to her experience with the party scene, but I can tell you what I have heard from my D who is not a party girl. There is a range, as anywhere- some hard core party kids, some who occasionally go to parties and a group that my D hangs out with that don’t party at all. Basically, if you want to find a party there, you can. But you can also find friends that aren’t interested in it. I’ll let Alexa share her tour info if she desires.
Yeah, the amount of partying definitely runs the gamut. There are going to be people in every class at every school that are really looking to party, those who don’t, those who do socially, those who wait until their 21, etc. I can say with complete certainty that no one was ever pressured to drink or kicked out of a party or ever felt not welcome. That mentality just isn’t prevalent. In the theatre department, at least. And I went to one non-theatre party in my entire time there.
I am going on tour with The Kennedy Center’s Performances for Young Audiences (and joining AEA).
Thanks again! And Congratulations on your tour!! @AlexaMT
