Honors Programs and MT Major

(I feel like I've been bombarding you all with questions as it gets closer and closer to crunch time... Sorry! But thanks for all the help!)

I've been invited to the honors programs of most of the schools to which I've applied. I know these are great opportunities, but since one has to have a variety of credit hours and take certain classes to be in the program, I'm not sure if this would conflict with all the credit hours and classes a MT major already requires. Generally, is it possible to have time for both an honors program and a major in MT, or does this vary greatly from school to school?

Thank you so much!

If it were me, I would not rely on such a generalization. I would ask specifically at each school about how the Honors Program can dovetail with the BFA program and ask if it is possible and if other students are doing it. I have heard of students doing that at some schools. But it would be important to ascertain this at each school as the requirements differ so much as to what is involved in the Honors Program and so on.

I agree with Soozie 100% on this one. All programs are different, so one specific answer (like the one I’m about to give) won’t help too much. But I am a BFA Musical Theatre major and I am in the honors program. I was lucky enough to (although I ran into some scheduling programs in the beginning of the semester) get everything figure out. At CCU we are able to turn a lot of our regular classes into honors classes by doing extra work with the professor and getting permission from both departments, so that’s how most of us do it without having a ton of extra classes. I also plan on doing my Honors Thesis and my Musical Theatre Capstone project as one in the same so things like that fufill requirements a lot easier- killing two birds with one stone!

It’s stressful but so far is working. I’m sure a lot of schools have things like that that can make it easier.
