I’ve been accepted to both universities with a scholarship from Coastal but I am having trouble choosing. I’m majoring in psychology on pre-med track and was wondering which university is best? I like coastal including the people, staff and campus but the reputation as a party school worries me (as I’m not that big of a partier) and I feel like people will make assumptions about me if I attend there. GSU has more students which I like (CCU is a bit too small in my opinion). Any help is greatly appreciated.
For what it’s worth, GSU has a huge party reputation. Lots of freshmen just go out and get drunk. There are literally bars across the street. That explains the very low 4- year graduation rate compared to the students’ entering stats - super underperforming, based on entering stats you’d expect double that rate.
However GSU is better academically than Coastal Carolina.
If you’re on the pre-med track and didn’t get into Honors, it means you’ll need a quiet dorm (see if they offer that) and a lot of focus. You’ll need to resist peer pressure when your roommate and your friend tell you to go out because it’s just the second week of class how can you possibly have so much work. (It won’t be work due… It’ll be work you have to do that won’t come due for a while but if you don’t do it now it’ll be too late. Being pre-med means having excellent time management skills. Those who think they can ‘wing it’ don’t last a semester.)
Would it be hard to get into medical school having gone to these universities?
