CoE computer preference

I've been trying to figure this out from google but has had no luck.

So does anyone know whether Mac or PC is preferred at umich engineering?
What do most professors/students use and which system allows for less compatibility issues with the software installation.
Or any other requirements I should know about like hard drive space, processor speed etc.

Oh and I'm planning on studying biomedical engineering btw. Anyone else?

Both Macs and PCs are acceptable. If you find that you’re having a lot of compatibility issues with a mac, install bootcamp and install a windows partition (free for engineering students through MSDNAA).

First off, I would recommend a laptop. Very handy when it comes to team meetings and etc.

Hard drive - dependent on the person. I have 300 GB hard drive and I’m only at 200. I can survive on less than 120GB if needed. However, I know people with terabyte hard drives that fill up quickly.

Processor speed - Recommend Intel Core 2 duo 2.1 GHz or equivalent minimum.

RAM - Recommend 2+ GB of ram

That should be all you really need to worry about.

Macs are fine as long as you have Windows on them. I would just get a PC though. Definitely get a laptop

^ Why ? Having only OS X won’t work ?

I personally think OS X is fine by itself, but some programs that you might want are only available on Windows.

It’s a much safer bet to have windows as well.

Thanks everyone for the input! This realt helped since almost everyone who I know went to umich has a Mac but none of them are in engineering :stuck_out_tongue:
Going computer hunting soon and will most likely be getting a PC laptop with the i5 core (I think thats what it’s called. Lol) because I can’t stand slow computers.
Thanks again!
