is this at MIT?

I dont know... am I the only girl in here that thinks this seems like fun?

I lived in a coed suite with a coed bathroom in Burton House at MIT in 1974-1978. It was no big deal then, I am sure it is no big deal now. Frankly, I can't believe anyone would think twice about it. We had a sign/pointer on the door and you just indicated whether or not you wanted to be private, allow in the same or opposite sex. No drama. I particularly liked it, in fact, because my mother (who lived only 20 minutes away) might have thought of more "spontaneous" visits, but SHE was so traumatized by the bathroom she only came if absolutely necessary.

Pebbles, I think it'll be a lot of fun too =) Everyday things get old, it's nice to have a change.

Not to mention, dont MIT girls have the stereotype for being ones you would not want to run into naked either? I mean, i'm sure it'd be better than a guy, but still....maybe that's why they dont have to worry about things like assault.

wow Chibear that was a pretty dick thing to say ... :(

that remark aside, there are shower stalls with doors (at least in Next House). There are no "girls" or "guys" showers, and no, take it from a guy that it's nothing special at all. You get used to it in about, let's say 5 minutes of moving in.

So most dorms do not have co-ed bathrooms - for example, at Simmons 2-4 people share a bathroom and usually they are all of the same sex. At Baker, they seperate by gender from what I remember. At Burton Conner, most suites are same-gender. I'm not too sure about the other West Campus bathrooms, but on the whole they seem plentiful. The only problem with them is there are often windows in awkward places. For instance, there's a window right next to the toilet on some of the floors at Burton Conner, or right when you exit the shower. Really strange; they have curtains which are usually open.

I can tell you more about the East Campus. Virtually all are coed. I'm not sure about Random, I've heard some hall are same gender there so I'm guessing the bathrooms on them are as well. Senior Haus has single-occupancy bathrooms mostly. I believe East Campus does as well, but my floor happens to not. It's never been a problem. Somehow, even though there are about 2 stalls per every 10 people, you'll always find the bathroom empty somehow. It's been rare sight to encounter someone else in it. Students at EC each have a sink in their room however, so there is little reason to spend all of your time in the bathroom.
Really, don't freak out, you'll get used to it. And although I'm sure you'd like to see some nude attractive person walking out of a shower, no that never happens.

Oh yeah, man am I glad I'm so smart! See, since I'm smart enough to get into MIT, that automatically means I'm completely fugly. Gee, there are so many benefits to being smart- now I'll never have to worry about getting raped!!!

"I would doubt there's a huge community coed shower though. However, i admit i'd love that idea."

Would you? Even if MIT girls are too ugly to be worth the trouble of raping? Well, now there's an interesting insight into your personality.

But please, feel free to defend yourself with another insulting stereotype; you seem to have plenty up your sleeve.

trust me, if anyone ever feels uncomfortable, they really try to make you more comfortable. I know in my hall's history, a really creepy guy was put there, and no girl felt safe showering while he was around. Well, he doesnt live on hall anymore.

I was deathly afraid of coed bathrooms at first. but what I soon realize is that there are certain times of day when people tend to shower. if you avoid them, the bathrooms are pretty clear.

touch

lol, I just think it's kind of funny. I'm not insulted by chibearsfan's crazy comment at all. We know what MIT girls look like, and we know how much he's missing out ;)

haha lauraN, where is he now?

haha im expecting great things next year from you girls ;)...dont let me down pebbles

I don't think it is safe to stereotype girls based on their intellect. I am sure there are some hot girls at MIT, just like there are some not-so hot girls at Dartmouth. It's as inane as saying "All Indians get into MIT", while I know of three (probably four :( ) Indians who got Denied.

(Plus, hotness is purely subjective and what one person finds hot may be repulsive to another ;) )

applause for LauraN!

Well...the idea will seem more exciting if you think of yourself as an old guy/gal more like your father or your mother....look at the way they will react to such a situation, :p how excited will anyone in that age group get..in such circustances....think....its fun....lots of fun....

hope you get the point..... :)

Hey, I really don't mind co-ed bathrooms as long as they are clean. Are the bathrooms cleaned daily?

By the way, intellect and hotness are completely unrelated qualities.

Wow, everyone wants to hate on me it seems. First of all, i said i wouldnt mind a large community shower because I find the female body to be a beautiful thing, and i dont get really grossed out by naked guys, though I can't say i enjoy looking at them. However, the reason for my comment is because I read these boards and i see that there are plenty "dicks" around here that have said they can count the number of attractive MIT girls on one hand. Obviously, people like this would not really think coed bathrooms are such a sexual thing, nor would they seem a physical threat to the women at MIT, considering they dont find them attractive. I, on the other hand, can find beauty in any woman. I think when you guys see two statements like that you should really think about how they corroborate a little more. Before jumping to conclusions, thanks.

Actually most MIT dorms have co-ed bathrooms.... Only Burton-Conner (which most suites are same-sex), McCormick (because its an all-female dorm), and Simmons (because of its setup) have same sex bathrooms but its not guaranteed (except in McCormick). I live in Next House and its setup is pretty good... individual showers and toilets have locking doors (usually 2 of each in every bathroom) and the sinks and mirrors are in the main areas. Most dorms have locking doors that lock off the shower and/or toilets. Curtains aren't that common of a sole divider (I can only think of EC, Burton-Conner, and Baker)

thanks, guys! you've all been really helpful ;-)
