Why chooese an all male/female school over public ones?

Why choose a single-gender school? Without debating the pros and cons, I would say it would be to focus on academics and minimize male-female relationship issues. There may be other reasons but this would be foremost in my mind.

yea, its hard to convice my parents though.

Have your parents visited Wabash? Many parents who visit single sex schools change their minds when they see what they offer. Good luck!

With me?`????

Ask the colleges for some information. They field this sort of thing all the time.

do a google search?

Also many recently coed schools are easier for males to get into because they are a somewhat under-represented minority. So women apply to women's colleges where they do not have this gender disadvantage. Many excellent women's LACs are slightly less competitive for admission than top coed LACs.

clue me in. What are/is LAS?

LACs are liberal arts colleges.

oh, thanks. however does this apply the the 3 or 4 remaing male ones? www.wabash.edu, www.hsc.edu, etc

Wabash, why do you want an all male school? Just curious.

LACs can have coed student body or a single sex student body.

Single-sex schools would be great if you're gay.
Other than that, the only appeal I could see would be that you could feel more comfortable sleeping naked, which is something everyone should do.

I disagree, kitkattail. Wabash has said that he wants to go to a single-sex school because he feels that he would benefit from seeing women only on weekends. I am interested in single-sex schools because of their other merits. Smith is one of my favorite colleges, and I am not a lesbian, nor do I sleep naked ( ). I love Smith for its other qualities.

"Single-sex schools would be great if you're gay." I disagree. I think a sigle-sex school would be great becuse you can say things at an all male/femal;e school and ot would be ok.

Wabash, what about going to a normal college and joining a frat. You can still study hard and have all the benefits of being in a single sex environment but you get the benefit of getting to know some women for real. Just a thought.

SLipper, I don't think that single sex colleges are abnormal...

Perhaps "normal" isnt the right word. I just think that much of what anyone looking for in a single sex school exists at coed ones plus a lot more.

Went to a single sex school. Last time I checked, I wasn't gay. Nor do I sleep in the nude. Somehow I don't think I am all that unusual.

No reason to knock someone else's preferences. They don't threaten you.
