Hello, I am currently planning on attending the College of Charleston. I just graduated and am currently taking a gap year where I am working to help save up money for school. I have been accepted and my gap year there was accepted. I will be starting classes Fall 2019. I was just wondering how the quality of life is for LGBT students at the College of Charleston, and in the city of Charleston itself. Are there a good number of gay students there? Are the professors non-judging of gay students? One thing I am scared of is getting a roommate that is homophobic once I’m there (I am a boy by the way). Is that something to worry about? How hard would it be for me to make friends? Also, will I be able to be open (I wouldn’t have to pretend I am straight like I have all through high school, not talking about decorating myself in pride stuff)? Sorry if any of this is irrational or dumb, I live in rural South Carolina and would just enjoy living in a place that is accepting and not so rude/homophobic.
CofC is very accepting of the LGBTQ students . There are quite a few clubs and organizations on campus. You may want to go online and search clubs at CofC to get a better picture of what’s available . Good luck. It’s a great school.
