Cognitive Science Major

Can anyone tell me more about the cognitive science major @ Rice? Would alot of the pre-med reqs overlap? How "difficult" is this major considered? It looks like something i'd be interested in! Thanks!

BUMP!! i have the same questions :]

None of the pre-med reqs overlap with the requirements for the major. Approx. 36 hours are required for the major: 5 required classes, one from each area of the major, and 7 major electives that you can pick from a list.

I am majoring in CogSci and from what I’ve gathered people tend to look at it as more a social science major that is more difficult than the Psychology major which is considered quite easy from the ‘Science&Engineering’ community’s standpoint. So it’s really not too difficult PROVIDED YOU ARE ACTUALLY INTERESTED in the different fields within the major (i.e. if you hate writing you will not like philosophy). If you are wanting to concentrate in Neuro within the major then it’s considered more difficult because Neuro is challenging.

Your pre-med requirements are not very large. You will be able to easily complete the pre-med classes and graduate in Cog. Sci.
