Can anyone describe the differences in these programs? Cog Psych and Bio Psych are obviously in the Psychology department. What department is Cog Science in?
For someone who is interested in going into an allied health profession, how easy or difficult is it to get classes in the College of Bio Sci if you are a Cog Sci or Bio Psych major?
Cognitive Science is in the College of Letters and Sciences. When you get admitted into the major you have a choice between two emphases: Cognitive Science with a Computational Emphasis, and Cognitive Science with a Neuroscience Emphasis. Both require different courses (obviously), the computational path will involve lots of ECS & Engineering courses while the Neuroscience emphasis will require courses like biology and physics. However both emphases will have you take the general CogSci courses like philosophy, linguistics, psychology, and math.
Cognitive science is a very new major; I think it was only established the school year before the current one. As far as I’m aware it’s not actually in a department. It’s an interdisciplinary major with advisers from a few relevant departments.
Regarding getting classes, after freshman year my biosci major friends haven’t mentioned not getting into classes, or being worried about not getting in. Even then they mainly got their classes, but didn’t get the sections they wanted. I don’t know if there are any major restrictions on the classes you would need for the majors you listed though.
