coins?

So I have a couple bucks in coins (pennies, nickels, dimes, etc), not enough to be worth any serious money, but enough so that it takes up valuable floor space in my room.

Is there any place that I can lug it to on-campus or very near campus? I know there's probably a coinstar somewhere in university village..or maybe the BofA...but that's a long way to lug for the fees they charge. Like maybe, does the credit union take them? Anyone? Thanks :)

if you're willing to roll them in those coin roll things, bank of america will exchange them for cash for you with no fees. at least, they will if you have an account with them. i'm not sure about otherwise. but i did that like last week.

Banks will probably require that the coins be rolled, which is time consuming and doesn't deal with the left over change either.

However, Coinstar has a nifty feature that lets you dodge the customary 8.9 commission. If you select the gift card option, the machine will count your change and give you credit for stores like Amazon, Starbucks and iTunes.

There is one at Superior in the UV. I did this at the end of last semester and put about $20 towards music on Amazon.

Coinstar FTW. A bunch of my floormates and I got over 70 bucks in coins.

I normally just use my coins at Coinstar to whittle down my Amazon wish list.

Thanks, guys. I just ran down to superior today and changed some of it to an amazon gift certificate. :) Now I just have to figure out how to get the rest there - they're pretty heavy and it's so hot out now...

Hot? Haha...I'm in the East Coast now for an internship, and LA temps look so nice from here. Though I have to say, for a native Southern Californian, I've adapted quite quickly. But I know what you mean; coins are heavy.

Coinstar makes sense if you pick out the quarters first. I hate paying a percentage on quarters, which are pretty easy to spend normally. Pennies, nickels and dimes, definitely to Coinstar.

lol, well, yeah, it probably was only in the 80's today. I've lived in LA my whole life...so yeah, I'm spoiled :)

Priority number one is just getting rid of them all, since they get in the way. I actually took mostly quarters and dimes today, because besides a few "emergency" quarters in my backpack, they're still too heavy to carry around all the time and spend.
