Anybody know when we hear back from Colby’s waitlist??
Hear what? A decision? Probably not until mid-May, since admitted students have until May 1 to accept. And the active waitlist can extend into June, so it is possible that you would not hear until later. This is not unique to Colby.
@dscottvb I was waitlisted at Colby, but was contacted for an interview by the admissions office and gave the interview on 28th March. Is it something that they commonly do or is it a good sign?
I just signed up for the waitlist two days ago.
Does anyone know what good next steps are to increase chances of getting off the list?
Also, Colby College’s website says that they start sending out waitlist notifications around mid-April…at least that’s what they’ve done in the past.
Has anyone heard anything yet? Super anxious.
There were some posts (think last week) that Colby had begun taking some students off the wait list already
I have not seen those posts in this section. I know that last year, they started making calls on May 1. There were a few people who had been told by their CCs (who had connections in the admissions office) in late April that they would definitely go to their WL. I would guess they will do the same this year. There are not, as mentioned above, lots of extra beds if they get it wrong!
@wisteria100 do you know where I might be able to find those posts?
@ColbyCollegeComm Have any waitlist decisions been released yet? When can we expect for more waitlist decisions to be released?
@LBPXCJV I don’t recall the exact thread, but just recall posters saying that Colby and Chicago wait lists did move
@LBPXCJV , a search turns up nothing so I think that recollection is wrong, and I suspect that they have not yet gone to the WL. If you look at last year’s thread on this, you will see that when it happened, everyone knew.
Does anyone know if they’ll be taking from the waitlist this year yet?
@gardenstategal
Post #139 in this thread talks about someone getting off the Colby wl
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1975273-waitlist-epidemic.html
@wisteria100 , there was one kid, not people, who said he got off colby’s wl 2 days after RD results were mentioned. One kid with an "interesting " posting history who disappeared when people started asking questions. I seriously doubt this was true.
Immediately after thst, people started referring to that post saying kids (note the plural) had been getting calls. This was repeated and repeated but never verified and the poster you refer to in that post #139 said later, but unfortunately not at the time, that she had heard people talking about it but had not seen it herself.
So I am almost certain this was a rumor, that after enough repeating, was assumed to be true. Tomorrow, I expect there will be genuine, credible WL movement. But within 2 days of Rd decisions? Unlikely.
I got off Colby’s waitlist in early mid-April. I suggest you to send a statement of continued interest to the office of admissions. I talked about why Colby and I would be best fits.
(Very sadly, I am not attending Colby, mainly since my parents strongly dislike Colby and thus will not pay the tuition. LOL. Despite that, I visited and really liked Colby. )
Good luck!
DD declined her acceptance. I like Colby and the changes taking place - very exciting. For us, it was a financial decision.
My D received this email today: “Thank you for your continued interest in Colby College. Our reply date of May 1 has now passed. Unfortunately, we will not be extending further offers of admission for the Class of 2021, and we will be closing out your admission file. My colleagues and I remain grateful for the interest you have shown in Colby throughout the process, and we wish you the best as you continue your education.”
Wonder if too many RDs accepted and they’re over 500. My son just got this:
"Congratulations on your enrollment at Colby. We look forward to welcoming you to our community.
The deadline for requesting a gap year or deferring your enrollment has been extended to June 30. Please contact XXX at xxx@colby.edu or 207-859-4800 to learn more about the process.
Sincerely,
YYY,
Associate Dean and Director of Admissions"
