Waitlisted - 1530 SAT, 34 ACT, 4.0 UW and a bunch of leadership/extracurricular stuff. But what everyone’s saying about surprising rejections/waitlists seems to be true. Dunno if it’s because they’re need-aware or not, but I do have a relatively lower income. Got accepted to Princeton though, so :-?.. Congrats everyone who got in, and don’t let it get you down if you didn’t!!
Rejected… I guess it wasn’t meant to be because it is need aware and everything…
For everyone who didn’t get in: remember that Colby is a very small school. Between those accepted ED and ED2, plus legacies, athletes, etc, there are incredibly few spots for normal applicants. They also had a record 11,000+ applicants this year, so the RD acceptance rate is probably incredibly low.
I’m sure they got more applicants because they were doing applications with no fee. I know my son applied just for the heck of it because there was no cost. Do they typically do this or was it new this year??
And in addition to no fee, there is no supplemental essay (“Why Colby”), which I am sure was an incentive!
Rejected too. I am figuring that, with so many applicants applying because of the free app, they might track interest more highly? I’m not a shoo-in by any means, but I’m URM, 29 ACT (lowish, I know), killer recs and essay (though my favorite essays were primarily supplements, which Colby does not require), top 10% of my class, high rigor (12 AP’s and 5 dual enrollment courses), interesting and focused EC’s including research internship at a local university and several leadership positions. Accepted to my safeties so far: Florida State, New College of Florida (considering), Uni of Central Florida, Rollins College (large merit scholarship), Fordham. Also accepted to a low reach (Boston College) with 4 years of housing guaranteed (which may or may not mean that I am in the top 15% of applicants at BC… that’s what their website says, but I’d find it hard to believe).
Anyway, while Colby’s decisions seem a bit surprising, I’m sure that everyone that they admitted will do wonderfully and learn a lot there. Good luck to you all and to those of us rejected and/or waitlisted!
Yeah I got waitlisted too… a little confused but I never really loved Colby to begin with, so no big deal. I’m just posting my stats for the sake of information. GPA UW 3.91, SAT 1500, top 5% of the class, solid ECs. Midrange EFC. Region might play a factor, I am from New England so if they prefer diverse student backgrounds, I’m out.
Congrats to everyone who got accepted!
Accepted. 1490 SAT, 4.0/4.6 gpa, 18 AP classes, Community service, low income, etc. Doesn’t feel real.
How do they even make their decision with no essays???
Waitlisted
Accepted
ACT: 32
SAT: 1480
GPA: 3.76
10 AP Classes
I am honestly surprised that I was accepted, but I included a top notch essay (my college essay I wrote for all schools) with it. Also, I have a well rounded involvement in extra curricular and nonprofit.
@samantha827 – My son did the Colby in Dijon Global Entry Semester this past fall. It was a good program, and he’s loving Colby now that he’s back on campus as “Feb Frosh.”
Rejected, Applied early decision and got deferred, 1450, 3.91uw, 8 APs, many EC’s, comforting to see so many other quality applicants in the same boat, needed financial aid. Should have used the early decision at a need blind school.
Waitlisted, like many others here it seems… wasn’t very attached to the school but now even more nervous to hear back from my top choices in the next two weeks. Congrats to everyone who got in!!
@ammielove , they read the common app essays, but they have no supplemental essays.
I received my decision yesterday. I was accepted!
I was accepted, but was offered no financial aid… did this happen to anyone else?
Accepted! 97.5 W / 1420 SAT / 33 ACT / 750 Math II / 760 Bio M / 660 Physics
Colby’s not my first choice but I’m considering I’m from NYC. I’m also well rounded in extracurriculars and nonprofit volunteer work.
@nervoussss12 That is quite odd since Colby’s financial aid is better than a lot of other schools. Williams wants 20k/yr from me, Swarthmore wants 25k, but Colby only wants 6k.
@williams2021 Williams also wants 20k/yr from me which is why I was so surprised to see I didn’t get any aid. I might have to call the Financial Aid office to ask why this happened
