Colby College Class of 2023 RD

Oh, I just created a thread for Colby because I couldn’t find one. How do I delete that one?

I did not get an email for the Presidential Scholars program. What makes me feel better about this is that only 30 kids are chosen for the Program, so I’m not writing myself off completely yet.

My son did not receive an e-mail.

I’ve been watching this thread for a few days & thought I’d jump in. My son also received the email for the Presidential Scholar program. We are cautiously optimistic that it is a good sign. I suppose we will find out in a few weeks.

The waiting is a killer…

Yeah, still a long time to go too. Expecting a very selective RD this year, I hate how drastic this downward acceptance rate trend has been.

Anyone else get a second email for the presidential program? It was about following a student’s story on Instagram.

My son got the Instagram email also.

My DD did too, but for the Bunche Scholars. So assuming it’s just generic.

Yeah I assume it is just to keep us interested. Like reading tea leaves from this point

I read on a previous thread on here from 2017 that a couple of people heard back early, around this time, because it was a presidential scholar program acceptance. Has anyone gotten a letter? Does anyone know if they are even doing that this year? Because I couldn’t find anything about it in 2018, so I’m not sure if the last year they did that was 2017 or something

@teddy10143 earlier in this thread a few people received emails about the Presidential Scholars Program. The wording is slightly vague, so not sure if it is somewhat of a LL or just a program they can apply for.

My D applied RD and hasn’t heard anything so far. She heard early from a couple of other LACs.

I’ll copy what was sent in the presidential letter
xxxx,
The Presidential Scholars Program offers a select group of students the opportunity to conduct research alongside world-class scholars and teachers, funding to design individual projects, and the chance to participate in activities offered exclusively to Scholars.

In their first year, Presidential Scholars are offered paid Colby Academic Research Assistant (CARA) positions, which pair them with a professor on a research project of mutual interest. After the first year, Scholars have exclusive access to Opportunity Grants of up to $3,000 for independent research, internships, or humanitarian projects. These opportunities span the curriculum, provide a catalyst for making a significant impact in the world, and help prepare students for life after Colby

To be considered for this program, we ask that you review the tentative list of research opportunities for the Class of 2023 and indicate your project interest by Sunday, February 17.

Please note: The Presidential Scholar selection process is entirely separate from Colby’s holistic admissions application review. In the coming weeks your application will be closely reviewed by our admissions committee and you will receive your admission decision by April 1.

We look forward to learning more about you.

Seems kind of inconclusive, right? Either way, contact from them is very exciting.

Fwiw, only strong candidates are considered for this, so I would take it as a good sign.

I got that email, but what I’m wondering is that it seems on the class of 2021 chat on here, that some people got letters around March 4 saying that they were accepted in the presidential scholar program, as well as the school. Has anyone gotten a similar letter or do you think they are not doing that anymore?

I also found that when I first searched for info about the program. So far the only communication our son has had was the Presidential Scholar email and then an email to follow thiscolbylife on instagram.

Maybe they were ED applicants?

here’s the link: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/colby-college/1968855-early-acceptance-on-behalf-of-presidential-scholar-program.html im not sure if they were ED or not, but they said it was an early acceptance so it makes me think they were RD

Does anyone know when they are going to release the decisions?
