Does Colby offer any admitted student overnight visit?

D rejected. 3.99 UW, TO, solid ECs, 50% DE credits. Mid level need (33k EFC).

Not really upset, but we are interested in the difference between flat out rejected and WL’d.

Waitlist 1520

International student from Ghana

In the letter, they encouraged my waitlisted son to submit a LOCI and an updated resume. Is this typical?

has anyone been confirmed as a pres scholar?

International accepted with near full ride. SAT 1550 and I have received the presidential application invitation email.

Prior to the pandemic Colby did offer an overnight admitted student program which was very well done. I do not know if things will be back to normal this year or not.

S Also Waitlisted at Colby, Grinnell, Macalester, and 3 others. All-state level flautist (not conservatory bound), but 4.6/4.0 gpa, 1530SAT (perfect math), Jazz Saxophonist, Vibraphonist, tennis player, works at Chick-fil-A. Couldn’t interview due to all-district concert. What else can y’a do?

DS waitlisted even after getting the Presidential Scholar letter. Way to play mind games, Colby. 1570 SAT, NMF, student government, varsity captain, top rated private school, etc. But he was accepted at Bowdoin with a huge scholarship. Colby’s loss. Congrats to everyone who got on.

Accepted as an international seeking full aid! 1510 SAT, grades 96/100, ECs & essays revolving my love for STEM and the Humanities - which I’ll be pursuing through Colby’s Science, Technology, and Society major! EFC is a little bit pricier than what I put on my CSS, but it’s manageable :DD so so excited, especially since Colby is one of my top choice schools!

Ah, no presidential scholar email though.

I got in as an Asian international student (full-pay) from an overrepresented country…?
117 TOEFL (30R, 29 *3), 1500 (710, 790), 96/100 GPA. My school follows the national curriculum but I self studied 4 APS and submitted 2 scores - AP Cal BC (5), Microecon (5), Lit (3), World History (3). Decent ECs…most of them are self-initiated. I think I have decent essays as well (I also submitted updated info/resume in Feb).

S22 WL 35 ACT and around 4.0 GPA.

My D22 was waitlisted at Hamilton and they encouraged the same.

I believe the pres scholar invitation comes out in a week or so.

D accepted 3.95 gpa (highest rigor math less so humanities), 1500 SAT, very strong leadership stuff. Showed strong interest - campus visit, appropriate follow-up with questions etc. RD because Covid prevented early campus visit but think they knew was her top choice. Second time through this and convinced that numbers matter less than most parents believe - these schools are more sophisticated at judging real interest and fit than they get credit for.

100% Agree with Miggy. Our second go round also.

My DD20 was accepted into Colby and the other 2 Maine schools. Chose a 4th Nescac. The schools have a solid idea who has demonstrated sincere interest and didn’t apply just to apply.

My DS22 did NOT apply to Colby as it wasn’t a good fit for him but was accepted at Bates and waitlisted at Bowdoin. High stat kid (1570, 4.0gpa etc) but visited, met alumni, etc and made an informed decision to not waste Colby’s time. Its a great school but I think his genuine interest in the other 2 was evident in his process.

My DS did like Colby and would have been happy attending. He flew across country to tour, was in touch with AO, and did an excellent job responding to the Presidential Scholar invite. Colby moved higher on his list because of the Presidential Scholar invite. He’s a very high stat kid - the kind that is appropriately in the running for ivies next week. But because those are so difficult, and he liked Colby so much, he really wanted an acceptance there. He knew he would he happy there. We were baffled that he was waitlisted after the Presidential Scholar letter. But maybe the AO knew deep down he’d get pulled away elsewhere. And in fact, a top LAC that same day made him such an incredible offer, I’m not sure any other school can compete. So, If Colby suspected he was likely to go elsewhere, I suspect they were right.

But Colby is an excellent school so congrats to all those who are headed there in the fall.

Every school is concerned about yield protection, even the “Ivy” kids. My son’s best friend was rejected at an Ivy, high 1500s, straight A’s all APs like my son etc. A couple of LAC’s dinged him also because they think he would attend an Ivy.

Other schools do the same. Friends daughter, high stat kid, got into Michigan EA OOS. Dinged from Richmond where her stats were light years better than the kids from our HS. The schools are very good at composing classes. Not perfect but very good. Some kids fall through the cracks at some places. My son was waitlisted at Nova with straight A’s, APs/Honors 1570 in one sitting and national touring musician. It happens. It is fair, nope.
