Colby parties?

Are parties only on the weekend? Or do they trickle into the week?
Which dorms are the rowdiest, and which are the quietest?

Though Colby is not what many would classify as a “party school,” there is plenty of fun to be had. Parties generally take place on the weekends, with the occasional Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights, however, are really the only days when you can expect open doors and loud music. The first and last weekends of each semester are known as “Loudness,” which is essentially a themed, campus-wide party. That said, there are plenty of fun activities for those who choose not to party or not to drink. In terms of rowdy v. quiet dorms, these change on a year-to-year basis. Aside from the Senior Apartments (which often host parties), there are no dorms consistently known for being either loud or quiet. There is, however, a “chem-free” dorm designated each year to students who would prefer a party-free environment. Students here choose not to drink or smoke. Other specialty housing options include “quiet” hours or prohibit excessive/loud partying on certain days.

Heights is often quite rowdy as well. The parties are great

Because housing is mixed across years and students move around campus, it is not very constant as to which dorm is the “rowdiest.” You don’t really get a choice as a freshman, anyway, beyond the option of opting in to quiet or chem free dorms.

Colby is known as a party school. Kids mostly get drunk in their rooms doing shots. There is a hard alcohol ban but no one cares. There is a lot of dorm damage from drunk kids on weekends. Record numbers of kids got transported to the ER for alcohol poisoning in the first couple weeks of school this year. Read about it in the ECHO. Check out the Waterville paper - a bus of kids recently got pulled over on the way back from an off campus party and got arrested.

The bus story is very controversial - just students wanting to get back to campus safely when their bus got pulled over because their (hired/professional) driver was speeding.

Bottom line is you get what you want out of the party scene here; there’s something for everybody.
