I'm an incoming senior guy from Seattle. I recently visited a number of LAC's on the East Coast and my two favorites coming out of it are Colby and Vassar. Colby seemed awesome and very friendly, which is consistent with what I've heard about it. However, there weren't any students there apart from the tour guides so it's obviously hard to tell.

I play several sports and want to continue doing so in college at the club/intramural level. Several of my friends are athletes so I definitely can get along with them, but for the most part at my school I get along best with a more artistic crowd.

What I've heard about Colby students aside from the obvious intelligence factor is this: athletic, friendly, love drinking/partying. However, I'm a bit concerned because in my experience these three traits haven't mixed very well. Maybe I was just unlucky enough to land in a class of jerks, but from my experience the "popular", preppy, athletic kids in my grade become incredibly unpleasant in any sort of party situation. I largely don't mind them outside of these events but once there I cannot stand the obnoxious behavior they exhibit.

I don't want to make my college decision off of stereotypes I've read on the internet, but I've grown wary of jocks who love partying so I need to know whether I can trust Colby students (guys in particular) to consume liquor without transforming into devilish idiots who beat their chests, harass women and degrade everything that comes into sight.

I absolutely loved the Colby campus and I've really read nothing but good things about it, but for my sanity I can't afford to deal with those kind of people in college. I'm avoiding frats for a reason.

(If anyone has answers for this question regarding Bates I was similarly curious).

Also curious about the strength of the economics program at Colby, and the kind of career services available (outside of the local Waterville pawn shop). Thanks!
