Colby vs Colorado College

I am planning to apply ED 2 to either Colorado College or Colby College.
Want to major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Passionate about wildlife conservation and looking forward to a lot of research opportunities.
I’m undecided between the two.
Both colleges have great programs, outdoor activities and small classes with great professors.
I’m not sure if the Block Plan is good for me. I tend to procrastinate a bit when it comes to subjects I’m not interested in. If it’s something I’m passionate about, I’d study all day. I don’t like a lot of workload, but I can manage to cram very well. If the block plan suits me, I’ll apply to CC.
Since, I’m applying ED 2, it’s a bit of a tricky game. I’ll be applying to the other one in the RD round.
Any thoughts on which one is a better fit for me? Thanks.

Also applying to SUNY ESF, Michigan, Tulane, Virginia, Beloit and Cornell (No hopes at all).

I’m more familiar with CC than with Colby.
For your interests, I think CC is fantastic. The BP facilitates off-campus field work.
The location is great for observing wildlife/plants and the variety of ecosystems that occur at different elevations in the Rockies, front range, and flatlands.

But … you have to be ok with the BP, which is not well-suited for procrastinators.

CC has some distribution requirements (https://www.coloradocollege.edu/academics/curriculum/requirements/). Look them over and think about whether any of them will bore you.

Sorry if this reply doesn’t resolve your dilemma but I think resolution will take some reflection on your part (along with visits to the 2 schools if possible).

I think the curriculum will be the only deciding factor for me.

CC and Colby were my daughter’s top two choices as well. She had a hard time deciding between them and ended up at Colby. She has shared that Colby’s Jan Plan gives her a taste of the BP (one course for three weeks between semesters) and that suits her well.

Thanks, 5050mom1618.

I guess I’m gonna go with Colby because it’s safer. In case I end up not liking the BP, I’d be stuck.

Other than the Jan Plan, how is the curriculum like at Colby?

Based on its range of programs in both environmental studies and biology, there would be little reason to look beyond Colby for your academic interests. If you are leaning toward Colby, you could confidently choose it for ED2 based on the breadth and depth of its curriculum in these areas.

Looking ahead, you might want consider Hamilton’s Adirondack term, which would expose you to further ecological variety, particularly if you were to decide on CC: https://www.hamilton.edu/academics/offcampusstudy/adk.
