Colgate 2025 RD and EDII

Thank you, good luck to you as well. It’s just so frustrating

It’s called COVID admission! Obviously your son is very worthy, hang in there.

Just waiting to check. I’m checking all my decisions with my best friend-cum-brother, so just he woke up and I’m gonna start the video call

Fingers crossed !

Thank you, we’re trying. Hopefully we get better news from the remaking schools, just not getting filled with optimism

Is anyone going to accept or stay on the Colgate waitlist? We have now 4 acceptances & 1 waitlist with 5 more to go.

Always accept an offered spot on the waitlist unless you are 100% certain that you don’t want to attend a school. Especially this year since they’re saying that there will be lots of movement on waitlists this year. Colgate had a 102% increase in applications this year; there’s no way that they can use the statistical models from previous years for this year’s initial acceptance numbers.

I completely agree. The worst letter of denial ever written.

Why was the denial letter so bad?

My DS has had 4 accepts, 2 waitlists and 3 non-accepts so far with three schools to go. He looked at the 4 accepts and 2 waitlists, decided the order of priority for them and decided to not be on the waitlist at the two schools and notified one of the schools that did accept him that he would not be attending. He has his top 3 choices now so it is less for him to figure out later. Plus - he doesn’t know what will happen with the last 3 schools…so…it is probably a very personal decision for each kiddo and their level of comfort with the schools they already have acceptances to. Good luck with your decision!

My D got accepted, but the FA package was lame! I really don’t understand how they evaluate. Our EFC was zero!!!

What did it say?

Can someone post an image of it?

Sorry to hear the FA package was inadequate. Colgate does use CSS Profile to calculate a family’s contribution, they don’t use FAFSA EFC, unfortunately.

The letter is kind of like stomping on a kid after you already knocked them down. In part, it starts like this: Among the many responsibilities that the Colgate admission staff faces, notifying a student of the committee’s decision to deny admission is by far the most difficult.

Followed by: …after reviewing your candidacy, I am sorry to inform you of our conclusion that we cannot offer you admission to Colgate.

Then they have the audacity to tell you to apply again “in future years” as a “first year or transfer” if you’re still interested.

The statement “our conclusion that we cannot offer you admissions” is truly telling a student that they were judged inadequate and unworthy by whatever barometer Colgate used. It’s like dumping on all of the hard work, dedication and things that they have done in and outside of school to accomplish they things they did. Shame on Colgate IMHO.

I am so very sorry. Someone needs to review that approach. It was about THEM, not your kid. Confident your student will wind up on the path intended for them.

yep…and don’t forget the part where he said…

“I am sorry that the news today is not pleasant. I have received letters like this myself so I know how you feel.”

Thanks. Of the schools he has been accepted to - he has some amazing choices and can’t go wrong with any of them. He just has to figure out what he’s looking for for the next 4 years. The schools are all very different from each other. I know the one he is strongly leaning towards and I whole-heartedly think it’s a great fit for him.
