The NY state LAC lists shows Colgate, Barnard, Vassar and Hamilton. So it’s number 4 in NY state. Vassar is three, not that this means much either way. I hope no one chooses a college on some ranking system; it’s up to the applicant - and to no one else - to establish a personal fit, to grow and achieve in his/her choice of college.
According to the USNews methodology, Hamilton is just barely behind Vassar and ahead of Barnard and Colgate. Apparently this new ranking’s methodology differs.
You know what? Good. Rankings ought to be used as a rough guide, a reference/starting point for the college search. Decisions should be made based on fit, not ranking. If a kid were deciding among these four schools, I hope he or she would visit them all before deciding. The feel of a place cannot be conveyed comprehensively in writing.
The posted link lists 1) Columbia, 2) Cornell 3) Colgate, 4) Vassar and 5) Hamilton, followed by 6) NYU. Nicely, all of these schools received an “overall grade” of A+. However, if Columbia is being considered as Columbia/Barnard, then this would make Colgate the 2nd ranked LAC in NYS (by this organization).
