Colgate or Hamilton?

Any thoughts?

i'm sure you know all this but... colgate has more of a reputation, but both schools ranked 15th in the country. colgate is d1. hamilton is d3. colgate is preppier and more sports-oriented, hamilton might have a little more diversity in that respect, but who really knows. obviously i like hamilton better, i visited colgate and didn't even apply. i think hamilton kicks colgates ass in terms of coolness, hehe, but it's all personal preference, both are great schools, as i'm sure you know. good luck!

well I live like 2 seconds away from hamilton, and my cousin went to colgate adn I've visited her, both are preppy, both are kind of isolated to some people. They are very similar, Colgate's campus is prettier, but then again I love Root Glen at Hamilton. I guess I'd pick Hamilton when all was said and done because Colgate is a little more snobby waspy/North Face than Hamilton. People at Colgate generally are more close minded toward others who aren't like them. I've been to Hamilton numeroud times so I can attest to the fact that there is more diversity there/ openmindedness.

One major difference between Hamilton and Colgate is the amount of students on each campus. Colgate has about 1000 more than Hamilton, and based on my own personal experience Hamilton is more focused on creating a mini-community. Another difference is that there is a stronger emphasis on Greek life at Colgate than there is at Hamilton. I don't know what you are looking for, but in my mind Hamilton and Colgate are so different that once you know what you are looking for you shouldn't have a problem picking.

Good Luck

go to Hamilton because Academics are simply better if you ask me

Visit both campuses and find out which one is more comfortable to you. The academic regimen at both schools is similar but each has strengths the other doesn't. For example, Hamilton leans more toward the arts while Colgate tends more toward the sciences. Because you don't indicate what you want to study, am guessing at this point you're undecided and looking for what you want to concentrate on. The campus culture at both schools is quite different; your gut will tell you which one is right for you. You can't go wrong with either school.

I visited both campuses, and I decided to apply to Colgate and not Hamilton. I just didn't like the campus feel at Hamilton, but its all a matter of personal preference. Also, Colgate's campus is much prettier. I would say that, overall, academics are about equal; however, Hamilton places a much stronger emphasis on writing and the humanities, whereas Colgate's science programs are stronger and they place a greater emphasis on study abroad.
