Colgate vs Bucknell Alumni Network

I've heard very positive things about Colgate's strong alumni network. Does anyone have any idea how Bucknell's alumni network is? How easy is it to get a job out of college at both schools? Is there a stronger network at one rather than the other?

What you may have heard about Colgate’s alumni network is encouraging and you should know that the Administration puts a lot of emphasis on career planning efforts leading to desirable outcomes. A good amount of work involves alumni, as you would expect, as Colgate alumni are an engaged group. A recently announced testament is a new career center planned for delivery in 2016 at a cost of roughly $10 million that will have state of the art presentation and communication facilities for Colgate students, interviewer and alumni users and the staff of Colgate’s super Career Services Director, Michael Sciola.

By the way, one interesting marker of engagement is alumni and parent fundraising where Colgate excels as evidenced by the capital campaign which ended 2 years ago and raised $480 million in a period which included the 2008 recession; this was the second largest such campaign among all liberal arts colleges- ever.

Now back to your question… You will hear lots about alumni networks generally and I would remind you that it’s outcomes that matter. Yep, the devil is in the details so you will need to do some research yourself at both schools, possibly to learn what it takes to learn about, prepare for, interview and secure different positions of interest to you. Further, such comparisons are meaningless. There is nothing “easy” about getting a job at any school although, of course, that depends where you set your sights, irrespective of what university you graduate from. I expect you know this intuitively in terms of your college search, right? For you, your search, your education and your execution it’s all about distinguishing yourself. There is no group plan.

Good luck with your ED plans!
