I'm trying to come up with a list of schools and I pretty much have it all done, except for I'm not sure about Colgate. It has the rep of being very new england preppy and full of jocks.
What are the benefits of going to either school? I want to possibly study econ and I hear they're both strong in that subject.

I hear that crime at Trinity is...bad. Some of it violent even...

Economics majors = eventual MBAs (in most cases) = establishment banker-types = preps. Lehigh may be what you're looking for. For other less preppy campuses, look at Chicago, Hamilton, Union, Emory, Brandeis, Kenyon, Claremont/McKenna and Vanderbilt.

Colgate and Trinity attract similar applicants and they both have good economics departments. There is a huge difference between their physical surroundings -- Colgate is in a remote but beautiful rural area; Trinity is in a troubled but lively and diverse urban area.

There are many schools in New England that have the reputation of being preppy and full of jocks that offer a fairly balanced student body. Visit and judge for yourself. You'll most likely find them more diverse than you expected.

Economics is also a common strength at many LACs. Some in the same "feel" as Colgate and Trinity would be Amherst, Williams, Hamilton, Bowdoin, Kenyon.
