Colgate vs. Wesleyan

Hi everyone! I am currently deciding which college to attend and have narrowed it down to Colgate and Wesleyan, but I’m having trouble picking between the two.
A little info about me:

  • Female from California
  • Wants to study political science/government, go to law school
  • Wants an active social life
  • Wants to work at the radio station and go to concerts
  • Wants to study abroad
  • Maybe play club or intramural soccer
Any insights on either of the schools for any of the above topics would be super helpful!! Thanks in advance

Costs?

Price isn’t a concern, just trying to find the best fit!

fairly different student bodies, stereotypically, with colgate being more athletic and preppy, and wesleyan being more artsy, left-leaning, and political. again, stereotypes.

way more opportunities for concerts and live music within striking range of middleton than hamilton.

I’m gonna go with Wesleyan. I’m an alum. Wesleyan has its share of athletes but NESCAC is strictly Division III; Colgate is whole other level of competition at Division I. I’m going to go out on a limb and opine that there’s a more balanced social scene at Wesleyan with performing arts students doing the lion’s share of the show running; athletes - in a good year - might put on two or three big parties.

Speaking of college radio stations, WESU is one of the oldest in continuous existence in the nation, and, not surprisingly, about 10% of all Wesleyan seniors land jobs in media and communications.

Beyond academics, Colgate’s appeal resides in its campus beauty, in the small-town charm of Hamilton and in its authentically rural surroundings. With respect to social life and parties, Colgate enjoys a bit of a reputation in this area as well.
