Colgate's NCAA D1 Cert. Self Study-- prospective student athletes should read this

alas....I see that Colgate has now removed the connection to the link in post 16!

Couple comments: will be interesting to see effect of athletic scholarships over time. One reason (beside competing against Patriot teams that do award scholarships) Colgate decided to begin granted athletic scholarships, was to allow it to compete for kids who are also looking at Ivies. A student deciding between Colgate and say Dartmouth probably chooses Dartmouth due to academic reputation. BUT, if Colgate offers half tuition, perhaps that begins to level the field. When Colgate began offering scholarships, it also reduced the number of coach supported recruits. Coaches were asked to be more strategic in their recruiting. As far as competing with NESCAC schools , athletically it is apples to oranges. While there are no doubt some kids on NESCAC school teams that could compete at the D I level, most simply cannot. I hear far too often that Johnny or Sue could have gone D I but decided D III was a better lifestye. While I am sure there are some who make that choice, Patriot and Ivy teams are at a whole other level than the best D III teams and most D III athletes would struggle to compete
