College Acceptances: celebrate here!

calmom, D just announced to her GC that she was down to Rhodes , Yale, or Amherst. That would mean that she has ditched my favorite - Scripps, as well as Colgate, Miami, and Hamilton. :( Everyone else was dead from her fantastic Rhodes visit this past weekend prior to the announcement (she really connected, and said the top students who were attending Rhodes were something special, as were the Bellingrath candidates.).

She actually came home talking about a sorority. My kid? In a sorority? LOL. Now that's funny stuff.

I will continue to shovel financial paperwork to Amherst and Yale as fast as I can (dang I should have done a more complete job), while begging for a quick read. But it's beginning to look a lot like Memphis. (sung to the tune of "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...").

I will continue to hold onto her leg for a while longer. I'm digging my heels in. I do not want her to make a rash decision. Well, at least not too rash. LOL.

All results are in for my DD:

*Accepted: *
Pomona, Wellesley, UC Berkeley, U Washington Honors

*Waitlisted: *
Columbia, U Penn

*Denied: *
Harvard (After early deferred), Yale, and Stanford

DD’s EQ is high and handled it extremely well. She is NMF, AP scholar and rank #1 /385 at her HS. She is a honor society tutor for 4years, a varsity swimmer for 3years with coach’s awards, a accomplished pianist. She’s won numerous local and national awards for her academic excellence and music talent.

As a proud parent, I am little bit disappointed that her dream schools ADCOM did not pick her. Thought I do know there are many qualified seniors around the world. And high school profile, racial, gender and geographic ratio are the big facts for highly selected schools.

Heartfelt congrats to all college applicants. You are my heroes.

wisekidmom
Congratulations on Pomona! Your d will LOVE it. My d's EQ not as high--- she got waitlisted at Pomona and was really depressed after bonding with the school on a visit.
BUT, Cornell U. Arts and Sciences came through, as well as UVA honors and she is now getting really excited about both! Wow.... it all happens so fast. I think there is destiny in it. Offhand--- what do u think about UVA honors versus Cornell Arts and Sciences? This decision is painful.....we are visiting both schools next week.

well as a Virginia parent, I am prejudiced but one thing that Pomona and University of Virginia have in common in my opinion is a happy student body and an upbeat atmosphere with balance between intellectual/social and earthly surroundings with beauty on hand to lift everyone's spirits. Albemarle County is stunning and houses some national treasures. If she has honors status, her issues with class selection at a larger university are resolved..so give Charlottesville a good look. Four pretty seasons and a very strong peer group there.

"UMich Engineering - very little aid, daughter's reponse "Good game, Michigan, thanks for playing."

I brighter student can take her place.

and now for something completely different (M. Python)

I thought that was a great line , myself. Don't be so touchy about Big Blue.

curmudgeon:

Cheers

KATP-Channel

Spelmom's S - The Manhattan School of Music, The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and Northern Illinois University School of Music.

My S has been accepted to the University of Pennsylvania Bioengineering program as well a the Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering program which is the best overall choice?

Joanne, Wow! BME at UPENN and JHU! That is quite an achievement. Congrats.

UGA Honors, UNC Honors, UVA, Tufts, Vandy, Emory

UGA would be free (Hope scholarship here in GA), but is probably a bad fit for her. She has narrowed it down to UNC and UVA. We're off to Charlottesville next week for one last visit and then A DECISION!!

One kid down, three to go...

Curmudge, I just saw that your D has narrowed down her choices and had a visit at Rhodes. Did she meet my alltime #1 olympic hero Dave Wottle??? Did she get an autograph? :) gonna have to decide soon....

Son has been accepted at Princeton, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCI.

Congratulations to the Class of 2006 and their very bright futures and to all parents who helped get them to where they are today!

2 down, 1 to go!

NJres, ahem.... Dave and I chatted the other night about the Olympics when he called to tell D about the Bellingrath. He told this hilarious but entirely BELIEVABLE story about being there, and get this - racing!!! and winning!!! I was in stitches. It was soooo funny. What a cut-up. So , he's pulled that gag on you , too? What a card. ;)

(He was my track hero and I just about swallowed my tongue when he called, and it really didn't have anything to do with the scholarship. Of course, that was pretty dang cool, too.)

D has jettisoned several excellent schools. From 14 to 7 in one fell swoop before the scholarship announcement, just on her love for the school. Then after the Bellingrath at Rhodes, she has moved from 7 schools to the final 4. That is progress. The contenders? She says Yale, Amherst (we are awaiting FA at both), Colgate, and Rhodes. (My favorite tanked at the turn. Didn't have the legs in the homestretch. )
