College Acceptances: celebrate here!

Congratulations to old friends and new on such a wonderful variety of choices! Remember - if the decision process is too hard, you can always pick up an appropriately sided die at your local gaming emporium.

My D is accepted:
Tulane, UVM, Boston University, Syracuse, George Washington

Congratulations Kimbee, has she decided where to go yet, and what does she want to study??? We're going to look at Syracuse this weekend. Have you visited Syracuse, and if so, what did your daughter think?

D has made her decision. She will be attending Rhodes College in Memphis. I am very proud of her decision making process, and the maturity she has shown throughout this ordeal. We have had a whale of a good time and now have the painful task of talking to admission's personnel coast to coast that have impacted our little family in a positive way, not to mention the coaches, and professors, and students of some world class schools. They all invested in her, and we are grateful.

It has been a truly remarkable ride. I hope that she lives up to the faith Rhodes has shown in her.

I wish for each of you the knowledge I have now. That even if the decision might not have been the one you would have made for them, the decision was heartfelt, well-studied and was made clear-headed and clear-eyed.

Now I'm going to go shed a tear or two over the wonderful future that she has chosen for herself, and I'll save a private sniffle or two for the doors left un-chosen. I'm a proud dad. Thanks to so many of you.

Cur, congrats. She had several outstanding opportunities and several things to consider, and I think she made a great decision. If I send you some vintage photos can you see about scoring some autographs from the Admissions Director?

Congrats on a great choice made from many wonderful options. That is so exciting. Rhodes is the perfect distance from home for her, too. There is a girl from Big D who I know quite well who will be a junior there next year. She loves it.

Kimbee and Cur,

My heartfelt congratulations to both your offspring!

I have a close friend whose son attended Rhodes just a few years ago. He was and is very, very postive about the school, both in academic terms and the basic decency of the folk on campus. It sounds like a great choice.

Now if only my son could get his act together! At the rate we are going, he'll be attending two or three colleges next fall.

cur, a big hug to you for going the extra mile (the extra thousands of miles!) to help make sure your D had an array of incredible choices. She is happy; you did good!

cur,
Congratulations on your family journey and reaching a decision from so many wonderful options.

Congratulations on having a decision. I thought for sure it would go down to the wire! Further proof of great foresight and planning.

Cur:
Thanks for sharing the journey and the outstanding outcome. We know your daughter has had a whirlwind of a year and she will express appreciations to the good people at the "closing door" colleges with grace and sincerity.
Her opportunity at Rhodes is compelling, and I, too, think her distance from her home state is a nice plus. A Memphis Belle indeed. She will bring great honor to Rhodes and take much from it before she is done. Here's to her future treasured friends and classmates and to the inspiring teachers she will come to know!
Best!

It feels like the end of an era. Her story has become my favorite novel. It had everything - a winsome heroine, a crusty but lovable dad, the thrill of victory, the agony of ...well, ok, not much defeat, goats....

What a ride. Congrats to Mudgie. I'm sure admissions officers are mourning everywhere.

Hey cur,
just read your post. I hope the goats are doing the happy dance tonight!!!
Congratulations on the decision and for being a dedicated and adoring dad.
Best wishes to your d at Rhodes. And thanks for sharing.

andi

Curmudgeon, many, many congratulations to Mudgette and to her wonderful father! My only regret is that our daughters will not attend Yale together.

Congratulations to Mudgarella! She has a very bright future ahead of her, and Rhodes will give her the opportunities to send her on her way. I know you are one proud papa. Enjoy the blues and barbecue when you visit, and maybe you can get Dave to sign a visor for you.

Curmudgeon,

I am about as happy for you as I can possibly be, and I know that Rhodes will be blessed to have your offspring. Congratulations, from the bottom of my heart!

Curmudgeon,
I have so enjoyed the journey you and yr daughter have taken these past months and have been so happy to learn of her many acceptances and awards. She has selected an excellent school and obviously Rhodes also recognizes her potential and excellence as well. Heartfelt congratulations to all of you. I hope you will continue to post between trips to Memphis, as your insights benefit so many other parents on this site.

Congratulations, Cur, to both you and your daughter, on this momentous decision!

Quiltguru, has your daughter decided as well?--sounded like Yale from your last post.

Cur: Thank you so much for sharing your D's journey through your eyes. You must be one very proud papa! She will go far and I don't think you need to dwell on "a private sniffle or two for the doors left un-chosen". Those doors opened this time, and they will open again given your D's talents! All of my best to Mudge for a great 4 years at Rhodes!
