College Acceptances: celebrate here!

Thank all of you very much, and QG, there is always med school, now isn't there?

And I wanted her to be with all of your kids , too. I'll think I'll re-read Confidentialia College tonight. It would have worked, too. Would have been a heck of a school, wouldn't it? With these kids? Now , Parent's Weekend would have made an Argentine soccer crowd seem mild, huh? But it would have been fun.

Hey, I've been thinking for a while that as this ends for us, as my Thelma and Louise I'd get a picture of D "up" somewhere so that y'all can put a face to this kid you have helped so much, but I don't know how to do that. Hell, I barely know how to do this. Could someone PM me really explicit 1,2,3 directions? I mean below grade school level. I can't run the new copier (or mail machine) at work and it's about 15 months old. I just stand over it and stare until someone else comes and does it for me. Usually they curse but I have my copies, so I still feel good about myself.

Curmudgeon, congratulations to your daughter and you. I have enjoyed reading about your daughter's journey (and yours). Best of luck to you both.

Cur, many many congratulations. I'm very happy for the Cur family and know the little cur will have a great 4 years.

I don't know how to do the picture thing either but you could cut and paste a link to a basketball team picture - I'm sure there was one in some newspaper somewhere! :)

hey curmie,

bit {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}} and Congrats to you and mudgette. Looks like you have your own Rhodes Scholar :) .

I am sure that she will do great things there and who knows, she may verywell be a recipient of the Rhodes, from Rhodes (hope I am not putting too much pressure on her).

Hey, Cur, congratulations on all the acceptances and now THE DECISION! Wow, can't believe it is over. Wait, it's just starting!--Best wishes to Mudge Jr. as she starts her new journey!

Congrats Curm on the decision!! WOW!! I wish her and you only the very best and tons of fun getting ready for college (the only part I like about them leaving, that and them coming home!).

Sheets, and egg crates and duvets and mini fridges and rugs and coats...I think DD's list last year contained over 150 items....paper clips, staples, a ruler, lamps, rugs, extensions cords, quilts.............

Kat
hoping to join the egg crate shoppers SOON

Donemom, D's "leaning", I think...like the tower of Pisa, but hasn't made a formal decision. She goes to admitted students' days at her top 2 schools next week, and will make a final decision after that.

Curmudgeon:
Congratulations on the Mudgette's choice! Does Rhodes know what it's in for? :) Do we need to send them a sympathy cyber-card from CC?

The Rhodes community is one very lucky bunch to be getting such a great kid and family. Congratulations and best wishes for 4 wonderful years!

Congrats to Mudgette & Dad - a race very well run! I know she will be quite happy at Rhodes, and when I bring my son up to visit in a couple of years, maybe she will be on the student panel! Maybe she can pull for him, Rhodes will be a BIG reach.

Now Kat, what is your latest kitten going to do? Once he and QG's daughter are settled, I can retire for a year or two ;).

OK OK. Celebrate here. I was celebrating on the wrong thread.

Cur! Congrats! Can we have Mudgie out here for grad school at Stanford?

Katwkittens! I hope your S likes Princeton best! If he is the type who wants to run something when he grows up, send him to Princeton. Alternatively, if he is the type who wants to sit and think and be brilliant, send him to Princeton:). Anyway, nevermind my boosterism, congrats to all making these great choices.

Great News, Curmudgeon!!! And now, will you be using the money you save on mudgette's tuition.room.board.etc for a trip to Italy, a new jacuzzi, or 23 miles of new goat fencing??? I'm hoping that you'll be able to choose the trip to Italy and jacuzzi. Congratulations again!

I just couldn't be any happier for you and your family than I am right now, curmudgeon! Your DD has had some fabulous offers and opportunities and I know she will thrive at Rhodes. Kick back and put your feet up ... you deserve a breather and you'd better get it while you can; it won't be long before we have to pack 'em up and move 'em out.

Curm, thanks for taking us all along on your amazing "legendary" journey!

Bittersweet, like having a good book, end-
Certainly, there is a great Chapter 2,
"Curm's Daughter- The College Years" ..
We will all stay tuned.

Smart daughter, being the big fish in the small pond which will open all doors for her during the Chapter 3-"Curm's Daugher- Med School Years".

Much happiness!

Quiltguru and Katwkittens, good luck down the final stretch of decision making. Your kids really can't go wrong with all their wonderful, amazing opportunities.

OK everybody, what's the hold-up? It's decision time. Let's get moving. For some of you it may take all your fingers and toes but ....here. I'll start "Eenie, meenie..."

It feels weird to be done. Happy but weird.

Cur,
I hope you're planning on writing a book ... cause you're lookin' at a best seller. Thanks for making a stressful year less stressful as we traveled along with you and your daughter on your journey. Congratulations to all of you on a great choice. Rhodes won the jackpot, for sure! :)

Quiltguru - Any chance that your daughter might be joining mine at Harvard*?

I thought for sure that one of my kids would end up at school with Andison - but I have a strange feeling that we'll have to settle for them being Cambridge neighbors. Andi?

Cami - I've still got one vacillating too. There's still a good couple of weeks left in April though, right?

curm - what ??!! You mean she decided already? I had marked to calendar to come back on April 29th and wait for the decision to be posted . . .

Seriously, all the best. It's so true about doors being opened, and doors being shut. But we try our best to raise sons and daughters who know how to think and evaluate choices for themselves. Now she's done that, and I know you are so very proud.

Now for everyone: may the next 4 years bring more happiness than tears; and may the child we see in a cap and gown be the same healthy child we sent away, only more mature and wiser. God bless us every one.

Am I the only one who thinks the asterisk on that huge thread ain't making it very easy to see the decisions? Can't we start a final decision thread that is just for.....uhhh... final decisions? What would it hurt? Sure would be easier on these old eyes. We can still celebrate final decisions here and that's fine with me but I think a new thread with decisions alone would be better than decisions lumped in with our 900 pages of acceptances .

There was a nice final decision thread up last spring..one version alphabetically by screenname so you could look up the choices of people you had come to know on the boards, and one version organized by alphabetically with the college name, followed by the screenname. It was cool to see the students who had chosen to attend the same college clustered by college name in that second version.
