College Acceptances

When do conservatories result come out? I have heard that they release all acceptances and rejections on April 1st.

It will probably be different for universities, however. Anyone know when results come out for schools like Northwestern or NYU?

The deadline for conservatory acceptances to be released is April 1, but many schools get them out somewhat sooner than that–often a few days or a week earlier. If you check last year’s acceptances thread, you will get an idea as to when various schools released acceptances then.

i’m surprised that info isn’t on the websites?

some of the websites do have the info, but it wasn’t exact. i was just hoping to get answers from people who had experience to see what usually happens!

ah, well i definitely think late march, but some schools do rolling admissions or have another deadline.

There are a number of prior “when” threads, and you can basically assume three patterns.

-Late December for the programs with early auditions and early notify dates. A few of these include Hartt, Oberlin, Ithaca, Berklee. There are more… see the current '011 acceptances thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a.html</a> for a broader range.

-Those with rolling admissions, and from a music standpoint seem to be few and far between. Cornish College of the Arts, Ball State (I think) from memory, and a few of the state programs and smaller colleges.

-The schools that hold to the notify by April 1 mantra, which tends to be the bulk. Realize that these will vary considerably, and notifications WITHIN programs can vary by instrument and discipline. Didgeridoo players may well know three weeks prior to the sackbut applicants.

-A fourth potential is that regardless of the “official” notify date there are always a handful of candidates that are so strong that the schools let them know early on they are “in”. These tend to be top of the heap audition applicants that the specific program wants (or needs) within a particular cycle.

If you scan the historic patterns of the Master Acceptance threads http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/10077956-post5.html</a> over the years we’ve maintained them, you will see some waves of additions.

One of but many of the “waiting” laments, with more links within http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/872066-waiting-letters-killing-me.html</a></p>

Now having said all that, the best place for info is the specific school. If it’s not posted, ask. And remember, the date is not cast in stone, and things can change drastically year to year.

The corollary to your question is “when do I know about scholarships or financial aid?”.

The answer there lies in a similar pool of mud.

Good luck.

Just plugging a compilation of frequent questions from last year http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/901390-2010-collective-experience.html?highlight=2010</a>. Lots of topics there that will begin to come up over the coming weeks.

University of Michigan also claims to be “rolling,” I believe. If I remember correctly, when I visited there I was told that applicants can receive one of three decisions a few weeks after their audition: accepted, rejected, or “we’ll tell you later” (the most common).

Some school say that everything comes out in March, or by April 1st…others will say that its 2-3 weeks or whatever number after your audition, and it can depend like if the college has multiple audition dates and sometimes they’ll release results from earlier audition dates, and sometimes they’ll wait until everybody has auditioned. I’m a high school senior doing auditions this year, and I had 2 that waited until everyone had auditioned while 1 told me within 3 weeks.

And some schools say April 1, but may get behind on their work and do not send some of their notices out for seven to ten days after that.

Thelovelybones, Northwestern emailed me and said that we would hear “by mid-April”. (Which is cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me). However, their general admissions website says we’ll hear by April 1st, so hopefully they send out the bulk of admissions by then.

NYU is definitely April 1. They should send out emails on that date, but letters may take a while longer.

i was expecting to receive letters in end of march…this wait is just never ending!!! phrygian, how come i did not get an email from northwestern?!

Thelovelybones, I have no idea! My email just said that my application was complete, and the part about the notification date was pretty subtle. Maybe you just skimmed over it? Also, it took them several weeks after my audition for them to email me. Good luck!!
