College Admissions and Facebook

So a friend of mine and I recently started a group on Facebook. The group is a "Book characters haters" kind of group...the only thing is, it could be completely misconstrued as being real.
I invited most of my friends to join the group, and this morning, another one of my friends told me that having that group was dangerous, as colleges have special people who will look you up on the internet and search(pretty much hack) your facebook...everything you've ever done, the groups you're a part of...etc. I'm a little worried that my affiliation with this, and some other groups could be detrimental to the admissions process...I was thinking of retiring as admin/maybe leaving the group if this is the case.

BTW, these groups that I'm a part of...none of them are anti-American, pro-terrorist, or anything remotely controversial.

Long story I know...what my question really is:

Will colleges REALLY look me up/hack my facebook then not let me in based on what they find?

You are being irrational and paranoid. A college will not throw out your application because you say you hate a character in a book. If someone hates Holden Caulfield, that doesn’t mean he’s not college material. People have opinions, sheesh.

I doubt they really have the time or resources to bother with that. Individual employers looking for a single to several candidates might embark on such an activity, but a college won’t bother to do the same with tens of thousands of applicants.

Thank you so much! I was thinking that that would be a waste/pointless as well…I just needed second opinions:)
