I have not been accepted anywhere yet and I just feel like this process is all luck and crapshoot. My friends are already choosing dorms while I am still waiting for something else than a rejection or deferral. ugh
I worked so hard in school and everything and I feel like all the effort was for nothing
Can people share stories where someone got into their super reach school? just reading these stories might make me feel hopeful
starting with me, I know this person with 1760 SAT get into UVA, no hooks, asian, decent GPA but few APs,
she wasn’t expecting at all and didn’t even want to go in the first place. From what I heard, she is struggling to keep her grades up. I feel like her spot would have been better for someone whose dream school was UVA.
Take heart. It’s my understanding that the great majority of announcements haven’t been made yet. Don’t know where you applied, but aren’t notifications generally made in March or April? Have any of your safeties announced yet?
There is a little luck, but mostly it is a question being honest with oneself and applying to schools where an applicant is a realistic fit (both academic wise and financially). As long as a person applies to a selection of reaches, matches and safety schools they will be fine.
And most people don’t make college decisions until April when all of the results are out, so as long as you applied well, I wouldn’t worry.
I was deferred to a EA and probably getting rejected from another EA coming this week ahahha
I did apply to 2 safety schools but even those a lot of qualified applicants are getting rejected and I am afraid I applied to the wrong schools.
It might help the anxiety some to get busy looking up the schools that have later application deadlines and do one or two…just to make sure and to pass the time.
Look for schools which still have open admissions or rolling admissions. There are plenty of them and some are quite good. By doing this, you can avoid sitting around and stressing out while you wait.
i think i will take the advice and apply to purdue, which is due 2/1
but there is always a chance I would be accepted to my dream schools right? im so nervous I hate waiting for results
The only students who gotten admissions decisions at this point either applied to a college with rolling admissions or applied EA/ED. The vast majority of colleges release their admissions decisions from mid March to the end of March. Don’t worry you are in the same boat as almost everyone else. Hang in there for a couple of months
dont worry. i have a 2130 sat score, 780 math 2 sat score, 760 chem sat score, 3.79 unweighted gpa, and have completed 30 college credits up do date (expecting about 64 credits by the end of this year), and i am 1 for 4 in my college decisions. accepted to purdue, deferred from case wetsern , u mich, and ga tech. im contemplating whether or not to just go to community college and transfer out. ur sat is a bit higher than mine, but my gpa is a bit higher than urs. we also have similar sat subject test scores. i got a 4 on ap us history and a 4 in ap chem (but im taking a bunch of college classes cause im doing dual enrollmenet).
im starting to question who this admission counselors are.
lol by the way. it would be kinda sad if u went to purdue with ur 2200. i got a 2130, and honestly i dont want to go to purdue. purdue admissions are really easy, and u can get in from CC. i dont see why people intend on applying to safeties and going. if u dont get into reaches or matches, just go to CC. ull get into ur safeties anyway from CC (assuming u dont undergo drug or depression problems) plus ull have a 2nd chance at ur reaches and matches. ull also be saving money
Even if you got into a super reach school, would you really want to go? I don’t know anybody who loves the thought of being below the 25th percentile of the freshman class. IMO, it’s better to go somewhere less prestigious than you hoped but do well in all of your classes and stand out for your academic excellence than to struggle beyond belief at a school that’s too hard for you. You’ll have a better GPA (aka, generally speaking, better chances at grad school) and an overall better time. Once you get out of high school, unless you’re going into very specific professions, it’s about what you do, not where you go.
@PurpleTitan yeah i guess ur right. but idk if ill get into UIUC b school for enginering. lol, do u think u can quickly chance me for UIUC electrcial engineering?
2130 sat score, 780 math 2 score 760 chem sat, 3.75 UW, tresurer of one club, 200 volunteer hours, and made a documentary about the educaiton system.
Thanks everybody for replying to my post
@PurpleTitan I applied to 9 schools overall
I think I will consider planning going to a higher ranking grad school in contrast to a reach college, if I get accepted.
should I still apply to purdue? My stats may be higher than avg but just in case? is it worth the money?
Well, that’s not always true. Yes, community college tuition is theoretically cheaper than even most public in-state four-year colleges, but the best aid (including merit scholarships) is usually offered to new first-time freshmen. A person who has a shot at the top schools might be eligible for big merit aid at schools that are technically their “safety” schools, and so overall it actually might be cheaper for them to take a large scholarship at those safeties than it would be for them to spend two years at community college and then transfer. Not all schools that meet 100% need for freshman ALSO meet 100% need for transfer students.
Not to mention that admission to the very top schools is even harder for transfer admissions. Stanford’s regular admission rate is 5%, right? Well, in 2013 the dean of admission said that Stanford only admitted 33 transfers out of 1,663 applicants - an acceptance rate of 1.98%. Normally it ranges from about 1-4%, so that’s not a fluke. In 2012, Harvard accepted 1% of their transfer applicants (15 students out of 1,448 applicants). Transferring means that you are taking a place that someone else vacated; since very few students leave these top schools for any reason, there simply aren’t any spaces for you to take.
I don’t know why it would be “sad” for anyone to go to Purdue, which is an excellent public university - particularly for engineering, but for other fields as well. The other thing is that not everyone wants to go to a tip-top school; some people really do want to go to their safety for a variety of reasons - money savings through scholarships; proximity to home; special course offerings; the school’s atmosphere; etc.
