"College Admissions Shocker" - Hilarious Op Ed - But a Little Realism Too!

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/30/opinion/college-admissions-shocker.html?_r=0

I commend this Op Ed by Frank Bruni published today in the NY Times to everyone with a senior or high schooler dreaming of (and plotting towards) Stanford, an Ivy or other very highly selective college. I think it will make many laugh – and cringe too. The race and competitiveness has reached new levels - so many smart students are falling into the trap and suffering for it. Wish the madness could end - for the sake of so many teens and their families. Maybe zero admissions would help!!

Very fun

The fact that five different friends sent it to me this morning means that it is resonating with many of us.

This article is highly unrealistic. It completely ignores applicants who are also platinum medalists from the last Olympics.

Too funny. The problem with a 0 acceptance rate: how do you improve on that for usnwr? Kick out existing students;)

Hilarious, and definitely with some truth, which is what makes it so hilarious. The comments are great too. But I can’t figure out how some commenters took it literally. Doesn’t the exclamation point in the title give it away from the get go?

Some people just don’t get satire.

I was fooled until I hit the 0 rate:). I had to start over and read again! Hilarious bc it is close to the ridiculous truth!

Outstanding article and perhaps the most effective way of pointing out the absurdity of ‘selectivity’ and the games being played to achieve it!

It seems this has been popular on several threads today – wonder if Stanford has referred to it.

Like four people have posted it in the Stanford accepted students Facebook group so far!
