College Admissions Story for the B Student

If you’re going to apply to Chapel Hill you might as well apply to Wake Forest. They’re a lot more holistic. I got a 1.96 GPA for my first two years of high school; a few good supplements and a successful interview and here I am.

@Sam998 I considered applying to wake but didn’t. I feel like at this point my chances would be slim because I think it’s too late for me to schedule an interview, and I would need to do regular decision.

Well Elon ED results are being released tonight, and Wake Forest results were released yesterday. I sorta regret not doing ED to Elon, but its too late to go back now. I find out on the 18th. I am still waiting on USCarolina and UNCC. I just really need to hear back from an option close to home to help relax me.

Also sort of considering applying to a few more smaller schools…specifically Wofford, Randolph-Macon, and MAYBE Sewannee.

If you cant tell from the way these posts have been headed, I have come to the realization that I want to be within driving distance of home. Most likely limiting me to NC, SC, VA, TN, and maybe GA.

There is a lot to be said for being close to home. You can make home feel as far away as you want it to be(even at school in the same city), but you can’t move it closer if you need it.

Good luck, you should hear from USC soon by mail.

Well…delayed by USC.

In a few moments of stress I sent out more applications

Washington College (in Maryland) (free app)
College of Charleston (Turned out to be free when I entered my high school…wasn’t expecting that)

Also working on the application for Appalachian State and Wofford.

Hearing from Elon at the end of the week, but I’m not optimistic now.

Update: Have applied to Wofford. Here is where everything stands as of now:

UNCCH
UNCW
Elon
NC State
South Carolina (Defered)
Wofford
College of Charleston
Washington College
UNCC
Mizzou (Accepted)
Bama (Accepted)

Oh I forgot, I also applied to the Semester at Sea program as a gap year option. If I decided to do that, I would most likely go in the fall, work at home in the spring, and go to school the following fall. It depends on where I get in, where I choose to go, and if they would let me defer enrollment though.

OP, have you visited Wofford? Awesome school, close to the top my son’s list. Good luck.

@carolinamom2boys I haven’t yet, I’m planning on going down with a friend to visit some of their friends after the holidays. I’ve becoming very interested in it lately with my leaning towards smaller, closer to home, schools.

Good luck to your son!

It’s about 1600 students. Beautiful campus. Good luck. The Carolina Panthers practice there in the summer. The owner is an alum.

Love that you are tossing in apps at flagships

Oh man, that’s gotta be agonizing. This was around the time when I received my first rejections. At least no one has said no to you yet. Keep your head up man!!

My biggest thing is not applying to CofC early…I was just all essayed-out and couldn’t get my self to write their supplement. I am starting to see that I could very well end up there, just now frustrating I have to wait so long for a decision.

Another issue is merit scholarships deadlines have passed for most schools.

The only deadline I’m sure I missed is C of C merit, which I’m not sure I would have gotten any of anyway

Wofford as well

Hang in there. Did you apply to Elon RD? I know the waiting is hard. I think you will get in Elon and UNC-W, and I still feel you have a chance at CH, time will tell. So C of C is back high on your list now?

@ITBgirl I applied to Elon EA, so I’ll hear back Friday. Really just one acceptance from any school on my list (other than UNCC) would take a ton of stress off.

Okay, I think my “post-deferment panic attack/application spell” has come to an end. I sent in one more application to Randolph Macon College, in Virginia. Free common app submission.

Now I think I can I should be able to relax and wait out decisions over the holidays.
