Hello!
I am searching for a graduate art program, and feel very lost.
I am interested in writing and illustration, and would ultimately love to be able to use these interests to create art for children.
I would love to become a children’s book author and illustrator, or design products/ activity kits for children!
I would love to go to grad school for something like this. I’ve been looking at schools for a long while, and have no idea where to start!
Does anyone have any advice, or know of any programs like this?
Thank you so much, I appreciate your time immensely!
Best,
ArtParty
Maybe a stupid question…but do you already have a BFA? Most illustrators I know did NOT necessarily continue on for a masters but instead got a BFA in Illustration to start out. My D is a junior in college basically on this path - she majors in Illustration and has a concentration/minor in language arts/creative writing.
Illustrators I know that have pursued MFAs or MAs generally did so to meet various state requirements to be an art educator either at the K-12 level or in college.
MICA has a program for illustrators that might be a good fit: https://www.mica.edu/graduate-programs/illustration-ma/
SVA does too: http://www.sva.edu/graduate
I’m sure there’s more around the country but those are the ones that come to mind that have strong illustration departments AND graduate level degrees.
