College Application

I’m kind of confused on one section of the college application, where it says list your academic distinctions and where it says list your extracurricular and volunteer information.

I’m confused on which goes where, for example"
I’m part of Science Olympiad, and we’ve placed at competitions, so would that go under academic distinctions, or extracurriculars?

Do clubs go under extracurriculars, or under academic distinctions?
I’ve always thought clubs go under extracurriculars…

Another examples:
I’ve placed at piano competitions -
Would that go under EC’s, or academic distinctions?

I know things like National Honor Society go under academic distinction, and things like Key Club go under EC’s and volunteer information

I’m still kind of confused a need a lot of clarification on things like clubs and competitions, and where they would go

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your space is limited, list wisely.
For example:

Under ECs:
Science Olympiad: 9-12; Captain: 11-12: Regional Finalist: 10, 12; Tournament MVP: April 2016
Piano: 10 years. 2nd pl: X arts prize, May 2015; Gold award: Y gala, Sept 2016.

Under awards:
Most improved: Varsity Soccer: 11
Honor Roll: 9-12

You shouldn’t use two slots, IMHO. The distinction between the two isn’t as important as your correctly conveying your achievements. The readers are used to the blurring of the categories – just list it succinctly and clearly.
