College Athletics (Recruiting?)

I'm a junior in high school, and I recently received a letter from a Top 20 LAC that read, "Thank you for your interest in ___ College [Sport]. You are the kind of outstanding athletic and academic prospective we hope to attract to our program."

The thing is, I never expressed interest in this school (at least, I don't remember doing so) and I highly doubt I'm college athlete material. I only started playing as a freshman -- two years of JV and one of Varsity so far, plus some rec league on the side. Did they contact me through the PSAT or something like that? I don't remember any questionnaire questions on sports, though.

The letter was signed in pen at the end and they attached a questionnaire for me to fill out and return, but I'm still doubtful that this is serious. Does anyone know about this?

Thanks!

Maybe it's your lucky day.

DIII schools have to cast a wide net. Don't read much into it.

A good friend and I are in the middle of being recruited and are both knowledgable about the process. Usually letters come because you are on the Coach's radar. For example, my friend went to state in swimming and so colleges such as Cornell, Wash U, and Pomona have contacted her because of State. You might suprise yourself, talk to the coach because everyone doesn't get these letters.

In my case, I have contacted the Coach's at Pomona, Claremont Mckenna, and Bowdoin and they know me because of my contact with them. If there is a certain college you want to go to and have the possiblity to play then contact the coach before you apply!
