So I got in Pomona with a big envelope in the mail...

I submitted Athletic supplement to the school.. more specificly the athletic forms on their website. The admissions letter says nothing about me having to play a sport.. Am I forced to play a sport?

Anyone else submit athlete supplement to Pomona know?

No, you don’t have to play a sport. Division III can’t require it, and all you did was submit the supplement. It’s just part of what makes you interesting to Pomona. Congrats on your acceptance, and have fun with your sport if you feel like playing it.

It’s fair to say that the athletes accepted to Pomona typically have the academic qualifications of what you call a typical academic acceptee. There’s no such thing as a dumb jock at Pomona!

But no, they’re not going to force you to play. And it sounds like there was not any particular personal commitment to a coach in exchange for his or her support of your application, if all you did was fill out the supplement. Congrats!

My brother was a recruited athlete a couple years back and was accepted, but didn’t attend.
He was told that if he decided at any point (including the summer before he entered the freshman yeat) not to play his sport that it was no problem. They know that the type of student they admit will pick up another activity, and they want you to be doing what inspires you.
In your case, if the only indication that you wanted to play a sport was filling out the questionair - you don’t know if the coach even put in a good word in for you with admissions…

Seems pretty atypical for me if the coach didn’t even call you (which you don’t mention) that they would even expect you to go out for the team. In fact, some DIII teams are pretty competitive, depending on your skill level you may or may not make the team. When D filled out the supplement, she at least got a call from the coach (not at Pomona, but other DIII schools).
