What are you guys using in college? I'm a girl and I'll need to walk 10-15 minutes to get to my classes, and I want to be able to carry my laptop (15.6") and maybe textbooks in it. Basically wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what would be able to handle that and not kill me at the same time. :)

Go to ebags.com and check out The North Face Surge laptop backpack. We have 2 of them and they work out well. It will fit a 15.6 inch laptop (fits son’s 15.6" Dell Studio) and the separate laptop compartment is well padded.

ebags.com is a great place to “window shop” for bags. When you find what you like, you can buy it through them or google the model and find your best price/colors at another website. Also, don’t forget to look for discount codes. Just google “ebags discount code” and see what pops up.

I got a great deal on a black and pink swiss gear laptop back from dell for only forty bucks. Dell has a lot of good deals going on online and in stores right now so that might be something worth looking into.

im thinking of getting a swissgear bag for my 16 inch toshiba - are they all that they are cracked up to be?

My ex had two of them one for his computer stuff and another to use as a regular backpack. He had them for about three years and they definitely lasted and were very sturdy and didn’t have the wear and tear of a normal backpack considering how many text books he carried around in his.

I just use a JanSport and I’ve never had any trouble.

LMAO @Ron2012Paul

At least it is waterproof.

SwissGear is amazing … I purchased one for my son when he was a sophomore (after he went through 3 backpacks in a year) and it lasted for over a year. They really are bullet proof!

Ah yes, a garbage bag will definitely hold everything without breaking, and be easy to carry to boot!

Thanks for the suggestions, although I probably should have specified I don’t really want a traditional backpack… it’s just not stylish! :p

I just looooove the attention my comment got :)

jansport superbreak backpacks.

$20 on amazon, lifetime guarantee, hip, classic, and wont break.

The best backpacks for carrying books and laptops are made by a small California company called Ivar. There are 3 sizes; most college students get the largest one. A terrific feature is that, instead of pockets, they have diagonally-oriented shelves so you can actually find things instead of digging. The shelves distribute the weight of the contents so you don’t arrive at classes bent over like a Neanderthal. (If someone is waiting to get you a going-away present, request one! (The large one is called the Urban 33)

I like LL Bean Backpacks, because they tend to have the most space of all the backpacks I’ve seen.

Yea I love swissgear! They make great stuff thats durable and reasonably priced

i have a northface backpack and it’s amazing. i used jansport all throughout high school but in college i found that it didn’t really suiffice

You don’t really need a bag. Either take a notebook/binder or a laptop in a case to class and you’re fine. Maybe I’m crazy for being the only kid on campus without some sort of carrying device, but I really don’t see the need for it. Not having a backpack discourages you from having a ton of useless stuff in there that just slows you down and makes you look like a lame college student rather than a confident, straight-standing adult.

Our campus police highly discourages the use of laptop bags… They just scream, “STEAL ME, STEAL ME” to all the kleptos XD. Be safer! Disguise your high-tech equipment!
