Deceptive article title.

To me, that actually sounds like a step forward. But no, the tests are not getting “easier.”

I think its bad, because before the kids that didn’t know anything, they would just fail and get a negative score. Now they have a chance of getting a higher score, raising the curve for all of us that know our ****.

I don’t believe this is true? Isn’t there a .25 deduction for getting a question wrong?

^ Yeah, the article is wrong.

^Thanks for confirming, Silverturtle

This is actually correct. bump

^ We were referring to the SAT. We know (and have known for months) that the AP deduction will be eliminated.

much ado about nothing, bcos they’ll just change the scaling…if they want to keep the top xx % to 5’s, they will do so.

^ Yes, we know. But the change is not “nothing” because some people responded more strategically to the deduction than did others.

It doesn’t matter how they responded. If it takes a 90% to earn a 5, it will still take a 90% to earn a 5. CB will just make the test a little ‘harder’, i.e., one or two more difficult questions will be added to the MC. Of course, the MC is only a portion of the test. Acing the MC and blowing two essays eliminates a 5 on most of the tests. (Calc is its own curve, since 50% earn a great score.)

Of course it does. Those who more strategically took the test with the deduction in mind will be disadvantaged by the change.

yeah I’m not a big fan of this change, I felt that I had quite a skill in knowing what to guess and what to skip especially on the history tests. This is not like the SAT where if you are skipping more than 1 or 2, you probably aren’t aiming for a very high 2250+ score, whereas on the AP exams you can easily skip multiple questions and still get a 5.

I’m not terribly concerned about the change. It is usually on the Essay portions that I falter anyway, and the multiple choice does only count for half of the score.

Not on all tests.
