No More Guessing Penalty For AP Tests

What do you guys make of this. Personally, I don't like it as the curves won't be as generous as they used to be :( I can't really see anything good about the change.

College Board to end penalty for guessing on AP tests - USATODAY.com

Am I the only one that thinks that they are dumbing down AP’s?

Yes. I wanna earn my 5’s… lol.

For a “not-for-profit membership association”, College Board seems way too concerned about making money and gaining market share…

^I say this all the time. LoL.

Does College Board have public stock? If so, I’m seriously buying some.

^“Non-Profits” don’t have stock.

Now what are we supposed to do for prepbooks? I guess the old exams from the CB store aren’t useful either.

Only on CC do kids complain about the lack of a guessing penalty.

Ugh, after I graduate too :(

I’ve heard about this too, and while I’m still unsure, it looks like they’re going to do it. I’ve also seen a thread like this in the AP forum.

On CC being non-profit: [a thread](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/213039-cb-non-profit.html)

I’m content with that.

I’ve heard that the reason for this is because girls are statistically shown to guess less…

I feel like this will have absolutely zero impact on the scores.

They do everything on a bell-curve anyways. Everyone’s scores will go up statistically by the exact same amount. Not only are the kids who know nothing gaining the advantage of guessing, but the kids who knows 3/5 of the answers to a question are also gaining the exact same advantage. If anything, it’ll help the kids who actually do know what they’re doing.

I do have a question… for those complaining? Do your teachers count off when you answer something incorrectly? I’ve never once had a teacher do that. They always tell us to make our best guess and if it’s close, we can at least get partial credit.

What do you mean count off?

They’re likely going to raise the thresholds for specific scores on it though, right?

LoL, my mom was just like HOORAYYYY NOW YOU CAN GET 5’s on EVERYTHING! <_<.
