College board blue book questions

i didnt get the following questions in the 3rd SAT test

section 3: 8
Section 7: 14 [i got C, they said in lines 9-10 about how the officer concealed the truth, but the answer is A, how?]

thnxs =]

For section 7 #14:
The question asks how the FISSURE was caused.
The passage starts out with "Even if the civillian population at home had wanted to know the realities of the war, they couldn't have without experiencing them." The first line of the 2nd paragraph says: "The causes of civillian incomprehension were numerous." Both of these lines point directly to the fissure, making choice A correct.

I know what you mean about choice C, but you're making a story out of what's directly stated in the passage.. just stick to what the lines say :P.

And as for your other question.. i can't help you with that one.. the answer is above reproach just because it is.. i can't explain it really.

For 3:3:8, the phrase "above reproach" in the correct answer can be roughly translated as "too good for criticism". The second sentence says "promotes the belief that our leaders had to be perfect to be useful." Perfect roughly equals "beyond reproach", so they must have been portrayed that way in the past.

This is a tough question best tackle by process of elimination, really.

Hope that helps.

thnxs..both explanations helped =]
