College Board New SAT Prep Book

i was wondering how accurate you guys think the book is. For me it sometimes seems like some questions are way too hard and some are way too easy. for example, i took 3 writing sections today and got a 17/24 right on the first one, 22/24 right on the second, and 18/19 right on teh third. It just doesnt seem very consistent. This put me at a 640-710 for my score range which is way lower than the 670-770 i got on the last to CR tests i took. I duno, it just seems like the whole range thing and the questions are sometimes strange.

I used the book and found it to be pretty helpful. We can't exactly assess the accuracy of the book until we've taken the New SAT though, can we?

I think it is fairly accurate, as far as I can tell between my practice tests.

Use the midpoint of the range to give you a rough score. The Critical Reading and Writing questions are probably slightly easier than the real thing will be, and the Math questions are probably tougher than the actual test will be. According, the Reading and Writing scores you receive from the book will be slightly inflated (by about 10-20 points), and the Math score is deflated (by about 30 points).

Hope this helps.

Godot, where did you come up w/ the info abt certain sections being too hard / too easy? I don't know if I can afford to have my reading score deflated (and dont need my math inflated) ahhhhh!

most people are just postulating here...it's not like any of us have any real answers so don't worry stambliark41..i'm sure you'll do fine
just worry abut how many you miss..not how the actual inflation/deflation thing is going to be. ex. for math if you miss 0 you know you'll get an 800..simple. hahaha...if you don't miss 0 then you have a problem because it'll be up to the "curve"..so just try not to miss any? =)

The numbers are my best guess based on comparing the results of my students on diagnostic exams (from the Official Study Guide) with the official results from the PSAT and the January 22 Writing Subject Test. Of course, individual exams in the book differ in difficulty slightly, so the numbers I posted are simply an AVERAGE. Use them only as a guideline, not exact numbers.
