Again, it is not just a matter of the chairs being too close. That’s how the head of Packer characterized the problem, which downplayed it tremendously. The actual problem, as described in http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/19/nyregion/educational-testing-service-cites-lapses-in-invalidating-sat.html, was a bunch of serious and flagrant violations of testing procedures.

@franglish, as already stated by 4thfloor twice now, the chairs were not the sole issue.

And what is the auditor supposed to do, go into every room and then have them move the chairs and then when does the exam start? Testing Center should do it right and then, end of story. Do you know how many rooms in a high school are typically used for testing? Many.

Apparently the auditor did try to take some action:

the supervisor of the test site, a Packer employee, told the auditor that she did not have enough staff members to spread the students out more./quote

The article also says that one of the infractions was failing to check identification. Given the huge SAT scandal on Long Island last year, I would think that alone would be enough to invalidate the scores; how can anyone be sure that Susie Q., high school junior whose name was on the test, wasn’t really Mary Jane, college junior?

Red point, your friend put it out there and sorry if some feel she is over the top

She is. No one died. It’s a pain. But if, say, she found out kids were cheating and nothing happened and her Childs score were relatively lower becuase of that

Yes it’s a pain, so is having flight cancelled, sitting traffic and missing a show because of a stupid accident, Losing a game because of bad reffing, etc

Life is messy, stuff happens, but in the grand scheme of things, retaking a test and having to rearrange schedules is minor if still annoying

And me, don’t much care if a plywr has to choose between a game or a test. If getting recruited for college sports at that level a test won’t really matter anyway

Ironic that I posted about my strictness as a proctor/administrator here in the past and was called a Nazi about it. Did you know that ETS has cut back so severely on staffing that a room with less than 35 students isn’t allowed to have a room proctor, just one person to administer the test?
