College Care Packages

I’m looking into getting my daughter a monthly college care package subscription. Does anyone have any experience With Piojon or Tether Box? I still plan on sending care packages that I put together from home also. She had a Birchbox subscription and really enjoyed that so I thought I would investigate a college version! Thank you for any suggestions or feedback.

Hi, Seagee! I’m sorry, I am not familiar with Piojon or Tether Box. I’m not sure if anyone here has experience with them, but I wanted to bump this thread up in case someone does, and to welcome you to the CC community!

I don’t know either one. For both kids I found it better to make my own care packages filled with things I know they like. They don’t need too many packages in college…one or two a semester seemed about right for my kids. I typically sent candy for Halloween and Valentines Day, and home baked goods for finals week (for both semesters) with some other little odds and ends sprinkled into all of those boxes… The two day post office shipping always worked well for me (you get the box and a tracking number).

My daughter just moved into a house for junior year. I sent her a box from Amazon pantry with really fascinating things like toilet paper and paper towels. Yes, she can buy those things herself, but it is nice not to have to. I threw in a few snacks, a new toothbrush, and off it went with free shipping because I had a credit.

In the past, I’ve sent popcorn tins from Popcorn Factory, a box from Ultra that I’ve ‘clicked’ together, or things I’ve picked up.

Another fan here of Amazon Prime/Pantry. IME, it’s easier and cheaper than shipping direct and I can choose staples and snacks that I know D likes. I supplement the occasional Amazon package with homemade holiday, birthday and finals care packages.

My daughter received her Amazon Pantry box today. Just like a Pavlov trained dog, she immediately texted her thanks. I hadn’t told her I’d sent anything, and it is to a new address, so I’m glad she received it and that I got the address correct. She’s happy she no longer has to pick up packages and haul them across campus.

Smart girl. Positive reinforcement will get you to send more.

Another vote for Amazon Prime Pantry or just sending something from Amazon. Easy and you can easily personalize it to D’s tastes and needs. For the 25 bucks a month of Tether box you can do really well at Amazon Prime Pantry.
If you have Amazon Prime you can get a credit for the 6 dollar shipping by choosing less than 2-day shipping on some other order usually.

^^That’s what I did on a wedding present I sent in June, so had the $5.99 shipping credit. I also noticed that there were a group of products that could get you free shipping if you bought 5 of them, and I think I had at least 4 of them in my box without an effort. I assume they do this every month?

This daughter is very picky, so I can’t send her clothing or make up or even treats (although her boyfriend will eat anything). How much can she complain about Tide Pods and toilet paper?

FWIW, I think my children enjoyed getting something familiar that they already knew they liked - a sort of comfort food. Took a quick look at Tether Box -at least one of mine would not eat a gourmet flavored marshmallow or exotic popcorn. I know that would just stay in the box until move-out day or get thrown out.

Also strongly recommend Prime Pantry. It’s almost too good to be true. Just saw on another thread a BS parent asking whether a Prime account was necessary. Can’t imagine not having one.

I haven’t sent care packages yet, but several small boxes of things D left behind and discovered she needed. I put little surprises in each and she really enjoyed those. But today she said what she’d really like is actual MAIL, like something in an envelope addressed to her and placed in her campus mailbox. That’s a novelty for kids from this generation.
