Did anyone compare the placement office at any schools you looked at? Should this be a consideration when comparing schools? If so what would you look at -how would you make a valid comparison. Could you expect a small school to have a job fair with the same number of companies in attendance that a large public would have. Can you get specific information on the placement of specific majors.

Any input would be appreciated.

We asked questions, and got information, including % of placement for specific majors. They should be able to provide you with answers. We did not actually use the information to make comparisons, nor the final decision.

You have to be careful about how you interpret such information too. A more pre-professional major or school would likely have far higher job placements, but that's only because they are mostly going into the workforce. Also they include students who scored jobs independently.

Other schools and majors could have more students going to Grad school, Law or Med school, and their job placement could "look shabby".

A school that has 30,000 undergrads and 400 companies does not even compare with a small school with 4000 undergrads and 150 companies.

I believe that getting a job is entirely up to the student. You build up your resume with good summer research, internships and even not-so-impressive jobs. A school cannot be expected to do much for a student who has nothing to impress with. Good writing and speaking skills, an obvious enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to take on the unknown, interview skills, presentation, etc. will all make a huge difference.
