Hi im a high school junior, really anxious bout next year. i was just wondering what u think my chances are for getting in next year. My top choice is stanford, but im also applying to ucla, uc berkeley, ucsd, u of chicago, MIT, yale, and harvard. also, im goin to apply to northwestern and usc's medical programs. here are my credentials:

3.9 unweighted gpa
4.3 weighted
6 ap's so far, five more next year
ACT: 34
SAT subjects: chemistry 790, math II 770, physics 780

Speech and debate 4 years, with leadership as captain for two years
theatre for three years
invisible children club one year
poetry club for two years, one year leadership
track freshman year, injured after.
hundreds of hours volunteering at a local hospital
volunteering at a doctors office
summer internship at the veteran hospital in long beach with top pathologist

Awards: lots of stuff in speech and debate, too much to list lol

I also took classes at pomona college, in chemistry and math, and got A's in it.
I might apply to pomona college too, cuz i have a solid advantage because i got A's in their classes.

id appreciate any input on my chances and anything i could do to increase my chances. Thanks!

770 IIC and you want to go to mit?

I think there was some statistic where 60% of applicants had an 800. I would retake.

thats not true, 70% of acceptees dont get a 800. and im taking math classes far above the subject test like linear algebra, i hope that makes up for the poor subject test score.

i said 60% of applicants… at MIT. someone else can probably back that up. Just retake it if you are in linear algebra (it should be a breeze).

im in calc now, and linear next year. regardless, i want to do medicine anyway so mit really isnt high on the list

Ok well I would say your chances are well above average at some of those schools, but just look at the threads this year for Harvard or Yale… it is ridiculous.

It seems high stats and good grades just don’t cut it anymore… I would try entering in some national competitions. You seem good at chemistry, so maybe USNCO?

It stands for US national chemistry olympiad.

It basically consists of 60MC questions, 90 minutes of short answer, 90 minutes of lab

Only 800 kids qualify to take it each year, so just making it to that level is pretty impressive and is worthy of including on your application. You have to take the local exam first though in order to qualify.

With acceptance rates this low it is almost neccessary to do these sorts of applications (if you plan on getting in on academics).

i did science olympiad… i think its too late to sign up for this. or at least to do this year cuz next year would be too late to put on my app
