It’s partly cloudy a lot but the temperatures are very mild… mid 50s. Yeah, the class is for the major I am planning to declare (CS)… But apparently I’m not the only one who has to do it so I guess it’s not that bad.

I’m registering for half of my spring classes tomorrow haha.

@quidditchcat - Welcome back! Glad to hear you’re liking Cal, and I hope your class situation gets better soon. I know a lot of kids there now and there definitely seems to be an adjustment period, so know you’re not alone in that. Do you know what classes you want to take yet?

And agreed that the weather must be really nice in NorCal–it hasn’t snowed here yet, but there’s been a LOT of rain, haha. Is it snowing in New England? And am I correct in assuming that the weather from Chicago to Cape Cod is well, freezing during the winters?

Yeah, I’m getting back into math (because guess what? I actually miss it plus it’s a major requirement), retaking that class, taking an english class and I’m not sure what my other class will be yet. But I don’t need to worry about that until December.

Found out that my grades won’t be out for this semester pretty much until I get back to school so that’s good. All I need to do is figure out what I’m doing over the summer.

yeah it would be cool to intern with them
but I would have to live at home
which sucks

but who am I kidding, I won’t get that internship this year unless I pull crazy stuff during my month long winter break (i.e. learn everything in the CS class I would’ve taken in the spring if I hadn’t needed to repeat) AND still have energy.

My Spring Semester schedule is literally just the last of my general eds - after next semester I’ll be working on just major courses.

American Identities
The Peoples and Cultures of Africa
Jerusalem: Sacred Space in Conflict
Gender in Global Context (Honors Seminar)
Calculus I

Is 18 credit hours too much for second semester? I don’t have any time-intensive EC’s. I will probably have to withdraw from 1 class so I need to make up the credits somewhere…

Will I despise this schedule? I’m doing pre-registration right now so I want liberty to drop a class in the first 2 weeks without going below ~15 credits so I’ll probably sign up for 18 regardless if I keep the schedule.

Monday:
Chemistry Lecture: 9-9:50
Statistics Recitation: 11-11:50
First Yr Theology: 2-2:50
General Psychology: 3:30-4:45

Tuesday/Thursday:
Statistics: 11-12:15
First Yr Theology: 2-2:50
Microeconomics: 3:30-4:45

Wednesday:
Chemistry Lecture: 9-9:50
Chemistry Recitation: 11-11:50
Chemistry Lab: 12-2:50 (never takes this long though)
General Psychology: 3:30-4:45

This is the course description. All GU students have to take two semesters of theology at some point. For their first semester, there’s a hardcore biblical lit class and then the class I’m taking, which is much more liberal. The teacher for this section is the best one.

@teenbodybuilder - So are you going to be studying these concepts within the framework of the promotion of a particular religion? Like using Christianity (or whatever denomination in particular) to address them?

I am so thankful for priority registration - I got into my Calculus I class (which filled up in two hours) and it is the only Calculus I section available to non-STEM majors that is not at some bizarre time like Tuesday nights or Saturday mornings. (It’s TuTh 9:30-11:50am). TYBG.

Linear Algebra and Diff Eq (have to take it with the worst professor teaching it in the spring, unless people drop the class who have the good professor).

An English class… Got a boring but supposedly super easy one.

the intro CS class again

Don’t know. I’m going to eventually have a fourth class but I’ve no idea what to take… Maybe discrete math.

I think it’s about religion as a whole from like a broad philosophical standpoint. It’s more like a philosophical history class that has theology as the core component than an actual theology course. I know some teachers are known to heavily base it off their religion but I’m trying to sign up for this teacher who doesn’t.

The second required theology course is where you can get more in depth to a particular topic. You don’t even have to study a religion, you can take classes like “religion and ecology,” “religion and science,” “Religious Ethics and Moral Issues…”

@teenbodybuilder
Oh I see, that sounds a lot like Religious Studies. (A lot of private universities do not distinguish between the two - public universities do because tax payers get up in arms about any sort of suggestion that they’re funding Theology courses.) I’m declaring a minor in Religious Studies; I really like it. Doesn’t hurt that Theology/Relsty students also perform well on the LSAT - since Theology/Relsty is usually seen in service of Philosophy and the reasoning of Philosophy helps with the LSAT.

I picture Theology more like a Priest/Christian Theologian (or a Theologian/Religious leader of any faith) presenting students with questions like “Why does Jesus allow human suffering?” or “How do we reconcile Darwinism with Genesis?” and the answers are based in very close, allegorical or literal readings of fundamental Christian texts and doctrines.

@quidditchcat I live on the other side of country so if I ever got the chance to intern with Facebook, it would be a blast to live in Menlo Park.

Here’s my super tentative schedule for next semester:

Programming Methodology
Intro to Computation
Multivariable Calc
Microeconomics (at another college tho)
Either Linear Algebra or a gen ed

@Violet1996, ah ok. today (or actually it’s yesterday now) Facebook people were at Cal and I got some free stuff haha… always free food lol… Seems like I really really need data structures… so if I’m to have some sort of plan this summer, I really need to study during winter break.

@Vctory - What’s the maximum number of credits you can take? Also - Calc I or II?

Does anyone in this thread use the app Yik Yak? For those who don’t know about it, I guess it can best be described as “Anonymous College Twitter” - but anyways, it’s really popular at my university. Parts of it make me really uncomfortable since it can seriously border on cyber bullying and sexual harassment a lot of the time (especially when certain people are labeled/identified by something they’re wearing, so the whole school knows - “Girl in polka dot dress got absolutely trashed last night at my apartment” etc) - but other times it’s pretty funny, especially when people talk about the school food, hard classes, the shuttles, etc just common things we all relate to.

I’ve heard of Yik Yak, but I don’t know anyone who actually uses it, haha. It’ll be interesting to see if it blows up like Snapchat did!

On an unrelated note, I’ve been getting REALLY lazy. I take the elevator to go up two flights of stairs to my dorm room. Locomotion is just so much work, you know?
